Product Description
As the long-time best-seller, Garrison has helped guide close to 2 million students through the challenging waters of managerial accounting since it was first published. It identifies the three functions managers must perform within their organizations—plan operations, control activities, and make decisions—and explains what accounting information is necessary for these functions, how to collect it, and how to interpret it. To achieve this, Managerial Accounting, 12/E, focuses, now as in the past, on three qualities:

Relevance. Every effort is made to help students relate the concepts in this book to the decisions made by working managers. With insightful chapter openers, the popular Managerial Accounting in Action segments within the chapters, and stimulating end-of-chapter exercises, a student reading Garrison should never have to ask “Why am I learning this?”

Balance. There’s more than one type of business, and so Garrison covers a variety of business models, including not-for-profit, retail, service, and wholesale organizations as well as manufacturing. In the twelfth edition, service company examples are highlighted with icons in the margins of the text.

Clarity. Generations of students have praised Garrison for the friendliness and readability of its writing, but that’s just the beginning. Technical discussions have been simplified, material has been reordered, and the entire book carefully retuned to make teaching—and learning—from Garrison as easy as it can be. In addition, the supplements package is written by Garrison, Noreen, and Brewer, ensuring that students and professors will work with clear, well-written supplements that employ consistent terminology.

4 out of 5 starsStudent Review, 2010-07-29
This book was chosen for me. After having taken an MBA course with this book, I am giving it a very good review. The subject matter isn't the easiest, so you have to have a good professor to make sence of some of the mechanics and concepts.

The chapters took time to get through. You may even have to read it twice, but it gives you the right amount of information. The information is not oversimplified but does not overwhelm you with excessive fluff. The examples with solution are consistent with the homework questions. Unlike some books where you wonder if the chapters and homework questions were written by 2 different people isolated from each other.

It's a tough subject for people new to accounting, chapters can be time consuming to get through, and doing the homework takes much time as well. However, if you have a good teacher and have access to a tutor, you will learn fundamental applicable concepts and mechanics.

2 out of 5 starsI don't like this book/writers, 2010-03-11
The content in this book is not clear as well as illutration examples. I have a hard time to understand the materials of this book. Eventhough the exercise and the problem totally difference in the content, given information on this direction and asking for another direction.

I just took Financial Accounting (5th edition) and the book from Paul Kimmel, Jerry Waygandt and Donald Kieso is great. They are the best writers, the materials and illutration examples very make sence and there are many examples in difference situations. These two books are totally difference, one is managerial accounting and one is financial accounting, but the writers of managerial accounting book did not write well. I wish the book was written better because cost accounting is very important for student.
