A measure of financial leverage. This ratio is useful in evaluating a stocks risk exposure to debt. A higher number, the more a company is at risk of defaulting on loans. Computed by dividing long-term debt by stockholders’ equity.
Debt-equity ratio = Long-term debt / Common stockholders’ equity
