Junk bond

Junk bond Definition

Bonds issued by companies that are thought to be highly speculative. Junk bonds have ratings of BB (S&P) or BA (Moody’s) or lower and are dubbed "speculative-grade" due to having a higher risk of default. Also referred to as high-yield bonds because they offer higher yields than investment grade securities.
