A stock exchange that operates outside the country's main financial center city. In the United States, the main financial centery city is New York City, so a regional stock exchange would be exchange located in other cities through out the U.S.

Regional exchanges currently registered with the SEC include:

  • Boston Stock Exchange (BSE or BSX)
  • CBOE Stock Exchange (CBSX)
  • Chicago Stock Exchange (CHX)
  • National Stock Exchange (NSX)
  • Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX), the nation's first stock exchange
  • Pacific Stock Exchange (PSE)
