A business entity owned by a single individual, which is unincorporated. The owner of a sole proprietorship is personally liable for any debts or obligations of the business. A sole proprietorship pays no corporate income taxes and is relatively easy to set up. However, the owner’s unlimited liability can present a real disadvantage over other forms of business.
