Sour Crude Oil Definition
A type of oil that contains higher level of sulfur. This impurity makes it more difficult to refine into gasoline as it needs to be removed before the oil can be refined. This results in higher costs and a higher gasoline price. Therefore sour crude oil is often refined into heavy crude oil such as diesel and fuel oil rather than gasoline.
