Product Description

She wished something would happen.

Something good. To her. Checking her wish for loopholes, she found one. Hoping it wasn't too late, she thought the word soon.

Meanwhile, in another part of town, he felt as if the world was opening. Life was rearranging itself; bulging in places, fraying in spots. He felt himself changing, too, but into what?

So much can happen in a summer.

5 out of 5 starsA beautiful book that you remember with a smile., 2009-01-01
When reading this book you have to keep the title in mind, because the title is what binds the whole book together. It's a story of people, particularly young people whose lives intersect and weave back and forth. I think this book captures what happens in everyday life. How our own paths cross with others and we have memorable experiences with those people. The book is about life as a young teenager. Not the angst, love ridden teenagers lives that you could read about in any dime novel, but about possibly real teenagers with likes, dislikes, and quirks that you can identify with. The book is funny, really funny at times with amazing lines that just pop off the page.

I had never read a book by Lynne Rae Perkins before. I just happened to see Criss Cross at the library. I picked it up and couldn't put it down. My sisters have read it and they love it. Not every book has to have a plot that goes through it like a highway and never changes. This book leads you naturally through a beautiful story that it worth reading. This is good literature and these days that's what we need around here. It's so hard to find a bright spot in the sludge that is young adult fiction these days. This book is what young adult fiction should be. This book is one of those bright spots.

3 out of 5 starsJust OK, 2008-08-05
This book has swear words and the story jumps around alot. It's hard to keep track of who the author is talking about.

5 out of 5 starsAn enchanting novel, 2008-07-23
Criss Cross is a wonderfull book of friendship, self-realization, and growing up. It is printed in many different ways and forms that make it fun to read. I must be honest in saying it is sometimes a bit confusing, but you always get caught up later on in the story. The author gives you just enough descriptions to be able to get a good picture in your mind and still allow you to use your imagination. She also adds in some comedy here and there to make the read a pleasurable one. The plot is hard to identify, but in the end the author's intention comes through and everything makes sense. I would recommend it to young adults and adults. A grand book I think you will enjoy.
P.S. Although you may get frustrated early on don't give up. The ending makes it all worth while!

1 out of 5 starsBORING!!!, 2008-07-20
Talk about stupid! The minute I started the first chapter, I knew it was a waste of time. Turns out I was right! I gave up and quit reading it about halfway through. There isn't even a plot! It's just blah-blah-blah!

1 out of 5 starsWhen does Debbie lose the Necklace?, 2008-07-15
I am reading this book because it is on my daughters summer reading list. She threw it down frustrated and said it was stupid. I told her it couldn't be the book, it must be her attitude and that I'd read it and then help her understand it. Well, I don't understand it. I came here to read reviews in hopes of gaining understanding. Can someone tell me when Debbie loses her necklace? In the first chapter, I see where it falls but she gets it back. I see where other people find it but I just don't see where she loses it. My daughter is supposed to define a problem, important events and the solution. I haven't read anything terribly problematic yet. Anyway, just looking for help on this one.
