Book goes to the point, 2008-12-08 Just finished it. Although it was written in 1956, IMO almost all the ideas and tips and insights could have been written yesterday. Some of the language used and things like specific dollar amounts for items were quite dated, but those things are irrelevant when applying principles, and sound principles and insights into human behavior were plentful in this book. In fact, the best thing about it is that he gets right to point in most cases. Very little "filler" or "fluff" to pad out the thing, as seems to be common in a lot of modern business and "how to get everything", "how to be great" type books. (There must be ten million of them!)
Anyway, here is the very first 3 sentences, to give you an idea of what you are in for:
"Let's be honest about it: we do want things from other people. We want other people's good will and friendship. We want their acceptance and recognition."
I like this a lot. Sure, it sounds a bit dated - "good will"? - but who cares? The man is saying it like it is. And he is absolutely right.
Anyway, I give this book 4 stars for good, helpful ideas. It didn't get 5 only because I am stingy and it is not genius on wheels, just good. The "meat" of it is only 143 pages, too. The last chapter is silly, I thought; a "worksheet" thing. But overall: Very worth reading.

Excellent!, 2008-10-15 This book really helped me with my confidence when talking to people and I highly recommend it to anyone who is entering any field that has you talking with more than 1 person in it and since we all have at least one(1) boss then it's recommended for everyone :D

one of the best books ever!, 2007-11-11 This is book is fanstastic!
It is a real gem! The one of many helpful phrases that I am now putting into practice is to "SFF" Stop Finding Fault with people. Also the last part which you have to finish by writing down your goals.
Everyone on the planet should read this book !

The title may be inaccurate but its excellent, 2007-03-13 This is more a book on understanding people and yes some of the text is a little dated but adaptable if you have a brain.
I would recommend it to anybody in sales.

Effective Communication with Others, 2007-01-09 If you have a history of being involved in problems with others, you need this book! Have you been fired? Have you had people turn against you? Have you had experiences of being stabed in the back? Get this book, study it and apply it's principals. I have used this information to help clients turn their business relationships around. It has improved the quality of my own relationships and opened doors of opportunity. It can do the same for you.
