Product Description

Personal vendettas, hidden treasure, and a monkey named Carl will send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most explosive adventure yet.

The Crime:  Armed robbery to the tune of nine million dollars

Dom Rizzi robbed a bank, stashed the money, and did the time. His family couldn’t be more proud. He always was the smart one.

The Cousin:  Joe Morelli

Joe Morelli, Dom Rizzi, and Dom’s sister, Loretta, are cousins. Morelli is a cop, Rizzi robs banks, and Loretta is a single mother waiting tables at the firehouse. The all-American family.

The Complications:  Murder, kidnapping, destruction of personal property, and acid reflux

Less than a week after Dom’s release from prison, Joe Morelli has shadowy figures breaking into his house and dying in his basement. He’s getting threatening messages, Loretta is kidnapped, and Dom is missing.

The Catastrophe:  Moonman

Morelli hires Walter “Mooner” Dunphy, stoner and “inventor” turned crime fighter, to protect his house. Morelli can’t afford a lot on a cop’s salary, and Mooner will work for potatoes.

The Cupcake:  Stephanie Plum

Stephanie and Morelli have a long-standing relationship that involves sex, affection, and driving each other nuts. She’s a bond enforcement agent with more luck than talent, and she’s involved in this bank-robbery-gone-bad disaster from day one.

The Crisis:  A favor for Ranger

Security expert Carlos Manoso, street name Ranger, has a job for Stephanie that will involve night work. Morelli has his own ideas regarding Stephanie’s evening activities.

The Conclusion:  Only the fearless should read Fourteen.

Thrills, chills, and incontinence may result.

4 out of 5 starsDouglas Mallach, 2008-07-24
My professor at lexington, Douglas Mallach recommended this book as a commentary on crime in America. It is indeed an insightful take on the criminal element and its methods. This was the third book Douglas Mallach has recommended. If you see a recommendation from Douglas Mallach, get the book!

4 out of 5 starsMy expectations were a little too high, maybe., 2008-07-23
I've always enjoyed reading these books, but I was a little disappointed in this one. Yeah it was funny, but it doesn't compare to some of the older books. I agree with some of the other reviews that the books are starting to seem a little rushed. I wish the whole Ranger or Morelli thing would just be decided already. You can only continue doing the same thing for so long before it gets to be a little boring and un-interesting. The relationship that she has with both men just isn't as entertaining as it used to be. I just felt that the book was lacking something compared to previous books. I will continue to read them though as she one of my favorite authors. I just hope the next one is better.

5 out of 5 starsAs good as anything Janet has ever written, 2008-07-23
Not sure what is going on here. What my husband and I adore about the Stephanie Plum series is that we always know what we're gonna get - a relatively fast, fun read that grabs us from the first sentence; quirky characters we know and love, and who don't disappoint; a few laugh-out-loud moments; and one of the few, very few, series we both genuinely enjoy and can discuss together. Those who reminisce so fondly about the early installments in this series should maybe go back and reread those books. I really believe this one is just as good. I find it amazing that Janet Evanovich is so very consistent. Every Stephanie Plum book is a treat. I liked this one a lot. And I can't wait for the next one.

4 out of 5 starsBetter Than Expected, 2008-07-23
I went into this book with some trepidation after some of the horrible reviews I read here, but I came away from he novel with most expectations met. I'm not sure what readers are expecting; it's not War and Peace, for Pete's sake. I'm not going into a log synopsis of the novel as other have already done that. My short and sweet review: this novel has a lot of the classic Stephanie plum moments we've come to enjoy and an interesting main plot. Sure, Ranger got short shrift this around, but that's OK with me since I prefer Stephanie with Morelli rather than Ranger. I wasn't a big fan of the Brenda plot mostly because it got annoying after awhile and I wished she would just go away, but that was probably the point. Overall, this is a good Stephanie Plum novel. Don't let the bad reviews keep you away.

2 out of 5 starsnot that fun, 2008-07-23
i have read all of the Stephanie Plum books and love them! however this one was a disappointment to me. it wasn't as fun as the others and just seemed blah. Ranger was barley in it and i always love when him and Stephanie have encounters. the shananagins were nearly none as compared to the previous books. hopefully 15 will be better
