Absolutely disgusted, 2008-07-20 As a female small business owner, I was excited to find this book. Not long into the book, my excitement was gone but I finished it anyway. Lavine calls herself a business woman, but she recounts on more than one occasion how she used her cleavage and the practice of unbuttoning an extra button on her blouse to her advantage when dealing with men -- to get financing, etc. I certainly don't consider that very businesslike! Also, she claims to be going through all this nonsense -- most of which is a result of her own lack of business sense, yet she is giving advice!? -- for her two sons. Yet she is rarely with them, and when she is she (by her own account) parks them in front of the television with a video game, despite the fact that one son may have a form of autism, which is only worsened by playing video games. Lavine repeatedly praises herself -- using words like "great" -- and she seems to think she knows more than anyone else. Yet she really makes so many mistakes that it's hard to understand how anyone could ever want to emulate her. By the way, I did my own search on her product and some of her claims, and many cannot be substantiated. She's big on claims and short on any proof or documentation. I would not recommend this book; she does not share anything I hadn't read elsewhere in much better organized books.

True tales from a fellow Mompreneur..., 2008-07-13 I absolutely loved the book! As a fellow Mom Entrepreneur, I found her story full of insight, helpful advice, and a great real world example of what happens to a company as they pursue venture capital. I was able to relate to her throughout the book and it helped me evaluate some of the decisions I was making at the time. I'm glad I found the book when I did! I highly recommend it for a TRUE story of what it takes to be a Mompreneur.

Fun, informative read!, 2008-04-15 I had this book for nearly a year, it was highly recommended by a friend but I thought the subject of business might bore me so I did not start reading it until two days ago. I was very pleasantly surprised that the book turned out to be a combination of how-to and memoir; the author's journey bringing her start-up business all the way to the big league actually makes for an exciting story. The author gives an honest account of her triumphs and failures, and she also shares plenty of resources, outlining step-by-step and explaining business terms/concepts. It is a very well-written story with plenty of human elements and useful real-world business-related information. I could not stop turning each page and finished reading the hardcover front to end in two days. It's definitely been a fun, informative read!

There's not much Mommy in this book, 2008-03-30 After skimming and skipping through the first few chapters, I happened upon the story of how she left her two year old toddler in a car to go to a meeting with a lawyer. My stomach just turned. I could read no further, even if there was more great advice. I don't want advice from a woman who sacrificed not only her two year olds' safety for her own goal, but also sacrificed so much family time for it as well. Should other mothers really be taking advice from a woman like this??? I only gave it 2 stars because she does include very good business advice, but I would have rather given it -5 for the "motherlyness" of it!

Excellent book!!!, 2008-02-10 This book was very informative and cut straight to the point from the beginning. It was not boring at all like other business books that's kinda like blah, you skip through it and put it down, which is what I normally do. Being a single mom I was instantly gravitated towards the cover and as soon as I started to read the book I was drown in. She talks about trade shows, qvc, consignment sells, and more. I highly recommend this book. I feel really confident about going into business now. This book is strong enough for a man but made for a women.
