There's No Escape From The Mule Hollow Matchmakers...

And this time, their next "victim" was Sheri Marsh. Sheri had long endured the town biddies' attempts at matchmaking, even though she had no intention of ever settling down. As the pool of single women dwindled, their efforts doubled, and Sheri needed a plan that would get the meddling mavens off her back for good....

Unless You Get Hitched!

Enter taciturn cowboy Pace Gentry. Playing her beau wasn't what this new Christian had expected. But the always aggravating, yet utterly adorable Sheri proved one thing to him--the Lord sure did work in mysterious ways!

5 out of 5 starsDon't Miss Out On Any Of The Mule Hollow Series. , 2008-09-24
As with all of the Mule Hollow books, this book was great! I'm constantly checking Debra Clopton's website for another release. Even since the first book, I was hooked. There fast paced, well written, with loveable characters. The stories will be etched into your heart forever! The only disappointment I foresee is the day she discontinues the series. What a wonderful little town she's created.

4 out of 5 starsmy first introduction to the writing of Debra Clopton and I enjoyed it quite a bit, 2008-04-23

Sheri Marsh is perfectly happy being a confirmed bachelorette and has no plans to give up her single status. Besides, as many divorces as her parents have between them, if anyone knows why getting married is a bad idea, it's Sheri. But the matchmaking posse of Mule Hollow have set their sights on Sheri and are determined to find her a suitable husband, whether Sheri wants it or not.

Sheri decides the only way to get the women to leave her alone is to trick them into thinking she's already got a boyfriend. Pace Gentry, new man in town seems like the perfect candidate for her scheme. Only a couple problems... he's a new Christian who is dead set against the deception Sheri wants to play and he just happens to find Sheri to be the most insufferable woman he's ever met!

God works in mysterious ways and soon Sheri and Pace will have to accept that He has a plan for them and it includes their being together.

Meeting Her Match was my first introduction to the writing of Debra Clopton and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I found my way into this series somewhere in the middle but that did not affect my enjoyment of the story. While some of the other characters obviously had their stories told in preceding books in the series, enough back story was given about them that I felt like I got to know them just enough for their occurrences in this book.

I thought Sheri was a little too stubborn for her own good, but then considering her family history it's only natural she's afraid of marriage after what her parents put her through. I never quite grasped the logic behind her scheme to get back at the matchmakers in town since it seemed to me her plans would have the opposite results from what she intended.

Sheri also struggled with her faith in God as a result of her past. She believed god didn't care about her or He'd answer her prayers. She had a sadly skewed opinion that God only cares about the devout Christians. Pace is a "baby" Christian and his new faith in God really makes a difference in his life. I think the newness of Pace's acceptance of God makes quite an impact on Sheri and if not for pace, Sheri may not have come around when she did. I cheered wholeheartedly when Sheri finally comes to understand God and renews her faith, which allows her to accept Pace into her life fully.

4 out of 5 starsSmall Town Love Lives, 2007-10-27
Take a beautiful, independent young woman, handsome strong-willed cowboy, small town self-made matchmakers and mix them together and you have this heartwarming story by Debra Clopton.

Sheri Marsh is definitely not interested in finding a man. The one she was engaged to walked out on their wedding and she isn't in the mood. But the town matchmakers won't hear of it. She is their next victim. Granted, some of their matches have proved to be perfect, but Sheri can find her own, thank you very much.

Then she runs into Pace Gentry. Her exasperation at his calm demeanor and nonchalant attitude is matched only by his at her. When Sheri intentionally draws him into her plan to get back at the meddling matchmakers, his faith and strength of character is challenged.

As always love finds a way.

Sit down with this book for a great story. The characters are real and endearing. The story is fresh and new. Debra has written a powerful book in such a few pages. You'll love the book and when you read the last page you might even be ready to pack your bags and move to the charming town of Mule Hollow, Texas.

5 out of 5 starsA romantic joyride!, 2007-07-28
Sheri Marsh has had it up to here with the Mule Hollow matchmaking posse.

Much as she likes the sweet group of older women who fancy themselves the town's very own love connection, their meddling has gotten way out of hand - especially now that those little arrows are aimed at Sheri. What's wrong with a gal wanting to be on her own? Footloose and fancy free, that's Sheri's idea of the good life. Besides, she's already been burnt once - no sense going near the fire again.

Desperate to get the well-meaning but maddeningly persistent matchmakers off her back, the feisty manicurist hatches a plan. In order to make it work, she'll need a boyfriend, and handsome newcomer Pace Gentry - a genuine bronc-bustin'cowboy - will do quite nicely.

But playing Sheri's beau is not in Pace's plans. A fairly new Christian, he has given up a life he loved in Idaho's Great Basin. Having reluctantly followed the Lord's leading to Mule Hollow, he wants to be obedient to the call, but the taciturn cowboy isn't exactly a people person. He's fighting the bit in his mouth just like the wild Mustangs he tames for a living.

Still, he finds himself repeatedly thrown into his beautiful neighbor's path, and unwittingly becomes embroiled in her determined effort to teach the meddling matchmakers a lesson. Somewhere along the way, Pace realizes he likes being around Sheri and the attraction troubles him, since he considers her something less than a virtuous woman.

Then he finds out he's just a pawn in the game Sheri's playing, and it looks like their budding relationship will die before it ever blooms.

Meeting Her Match is a masterful piece of storytelling. Debra Clopton has a natural handle on humor, and Sheri Marsh's fiascos keep the reader in stitches throughout the book. Under Clopton's talented pen, the well-rounded characters come alive and readers will miss them after the last page. A well-written, warm, funny story peopled with lovable, very real characters that won't be soon forgotten.

An exhilarating horseback ride into the wonderful world of Mule Hollow, Texas. Don't miss it!

3 out of 5 starsAhhh, sweet romance, 2007-07-20
You'll find a sweet romance and fun-filled read in Meeting Her Match.

Sherri Marsh has had it with the busybodies in Mule Hollow. It seems that all they want to do is marry her off to the first eligible cowboy who comes around. When she devises a plan to deflect their attention, the town (and its bachelors!) had better watch out.

Pace Gentry's recent move to Mule Hollow to break mustangs has him wound in knots and wondering if he heard God right. His loner tendencies have kept him from developing relationships in the past, but does God have something more in store for him?

Sparks fly when Sherri tries to convince Pace to act as her boyfriend, but he refuses. She devises a plan B to keep the busybodies away, but her tenacious and spunky spirit keeps clashing with his stubbornness. And the town busybodies love to see the interactions between these two.

Will Pace find out about Sherri's secret plan? Will Sherri lose her heart after she's promised herself she'll be single forever?

Debra Clopton creates a sweet, if somewhat predictable, romance in Meeting Her Match. Too much backstory bogs down the beginning of the book, and I was wondering when the real action would begin. Once it did, I quickly became enmeshed in the conflict between Pace and Sherri.

Dialogue was witty and fast-paced, except for a few common nicknames that were used throughout. I found Sherri's sarcasm endearing (as I tend to be that way sometimes!) and well-written. There were multiple places where I giggled aloud at her barbs.

The secondary plot lines were cute but felt a little flat and left me wanting more details than were shown in the story. The inspirational tone of this book was not preachy, but definitely there.

As in all sweet romances, it has a happy ending that was well written and left me with warm, fuzzy feelings. Overall, this was a great read with only a few things that could have been improved.

Armchair Interviews says: Sweet story for when you crave a happy ending.
