Disappointed, 2008-06-29 I bought this some time ago and, to be honest, only read the first book. After that I couldn't read any more. I give this volume a 2-star rating, and here's why:
My boyfriend and I watched the movie together. We saw it in Blockbuster and thought we'd give it a shot. Well, I liked the movie so much that I soon paid $26 for this volume so I could read the words for myself. I was excited... finally, to know what God himself is thinking! I got through the first book and got many headaches and heartaches along the way. This book was very much misrepresented in the movie, for starters. Secondly, it just was not at all what I was expecting. The basic message I got from this book was, "Do whatever you want, as long as it makes you happy. Everyone is going to Heaven anyway." (And Heaven isn't even that great, from what I understand.) It left me feeling that the greatest thing this world -- and the next -- has to offer is temporary happiness. Is that it? Even ferrets are capable of temporary happiness. I thought we were destined for so much more.
In addition, it made God out to be some guy who just doesn't seem to care about the people he created. Sure, he doesn't want them to suffer, and wants them to be happy, but it's not much deeper than that. He doesn't care about what we do or why we do it, or even if we have a relationship with him. As long as we have a good time, learn a few things, and be happy.
So really, I did learn one thing from reading this book. It's just a book, like any other, and if I'm looking for God, he can't be found in a book. Everyone thinks they have the answer. Many people claim that God speaks to them -- yet it's always something different from each person.
So why not give this book only one star instead of two? Honestly, because so many people have at least accepted the idea of God from reading this book. Accepting that there is a God is a very good first step. Hopefully, people will eventually be led to a greater idea of God than what this book has to offer.

Absolutely wonderful, 2008-05-22 I believe these books "Conversations with God" are some of the best I have every read. If a person is looking for something more than main stream religion is offering then I highly recommend the books. Other books that I would recommend are "A Course in Miracles", "The Secret" and "The Disapperance of the Universe". Blessings and Peace to all who read this review.

The definition of current political correctness, 2008-05-02 Anyone contemplating buying this book should know that the information therein is channeled directly from God. Before buying it, however, I suggest you take the time to look at channeled information from sources in the late 19th and early twentieth centuries. If you do, you will see that channeled messages coming from "highly evolved spirits" always contain rationalizations for the politically correct doctrines of their own day. Political correctness is nothing new. It has existed in all societies at all times, and its doctrines change with each new generation. Jesus was crucified on the cross of his own age's political correctness. Today, we can't crucify people who are politically incorrect, so we make them take sensitivity training seminars. In every age, channeled messages generally mirror the opinions of the prevailing popular culture, and this book (actually three books in one) is no exception. In fact, it is a supersized example.
Neal Donald Walsch has written the ultimate justification for every late twentieth century politically correct shibboleth anyone can think of, from "sex without guilt" (unrestricted sex is good and never hurts anyone) to a fawning reference to John Robins book, "Diet for a new America" which is a textbook promoting vegan vegetarianism. The book contains constant slaps against American healthcare (conspiracies to keep people sick), the military-industrial complex, Judeo-Christian ethics, and traditional western morality. Apparently the universe is teeming with HEB's (highly evolved beings) who live in blissful socialist gestalts on other planets and who's perfection we cannot hope to match until we achieve universal socialism here on earth. God approves of virtually every aspect of populist progressive politics. And all this is direct from the pen of God himself!
If you are interested in justifying your (twentieth century) politically correct beliefs, then this is a great book for you. God comes off as a sort of aging hippie who preaches "Do your own thing", and "Don't be so uptight". But if you have spent any time studying modern history, if you have any knowledge of the beneficial role of religion in establishing and maintaining civilizations, or if you know anything about human nature, you will realize that God isn't likely to be giving you the sort of advice you will find here.
Oh...And God says that Hitler went to heaven too. Who knew? Guess he was just doing his own thing. Can't blame him for that!
