Witch trials, 2008-08-09 As an adult I am always apalled at the reading of the Salem witch trials. Based only on the antics of silly puritan girls 140 people were accused, 19 hanged as guilty and one pressed to death under stone. Gruesome! As a female I am repulsed by the puritans who had such a strict life for women that they must marry, produce many children, cook, clean, take care of everything and be given no respect and no rights. As an adult READER I am delighted at the story line and accuracy of the "Dear America" series of books. They are a wonderful insight for young people into a way of life they will never know. Great books - buy them all.

A super read for kids..., 2008-05-25 This is a beautiful companion to teaching "The Crucible", particularly for younger readers. Lisa's style is poetic, elegant, and still can touch a raw nerve. Wonderful!

My Review on: I Walk In Dread, 2008-02-27
This is an inspiring story of a girl named Deliverance Trembley. She was a
witness of the Salem Witch Trials. This book shows you how young innocent women are
locked up and asked questions because they are thought of as witches. Just because they
believe in different things that others didn't believe. Not only did it inspire me but it also
showed you what life was life in the late 1600s. Deliverance had gone through tough
times with a lot of family deaths and later had to move in with her uncle. Her Uncle was
very rich. They had strict rules such as keeping a diary because it reminded him of the so
called "Devil's Book" which the devil would make people sign to become witches. Her
sister Remembrance Trembly, goes through a messed up marriage and a lot of confusions.
Also Deliverance loses a very close friend who is said to be a witch and in the end is
hung. It is hard for Deliverance to recover. I think it is inspiring because it showed me
how hard it was losing the ones you love the most. I highly recommend this book. It is in
a way meant for women a little more than for men. It is an amazing, inspiring book!

Among the best and last of the Dear America series, 2007-10-31 While unfortunately the popularity of Scholastic's DEAR AMERICA series has waned in recent years, the quality content has not in the least. This 2004 title, a tale of a young girl's firsthand account of the Salem Witch Trials, is an engaging and exciting read for `tweeners and for others who just enjoy great historical fiction. Deliverance Trembley, her sister Remembrance and the rest of the characters, including those actually arrested and tried, are vivid and as real to 21st Century readers as any Harry Potter or Jack Sparrow. Author Fraustino masterfully alludes to the captivity narrative of Mary Rowlandson throughout her story, another element enriching the novel's verisimilitude. If you enjoy historical fiction or particularly other titles in this series, you'll like this one too.

Five Stars, 2007-08-07 One of the last books of Dear America series and what a tragedy given how wonderful each of these books are. Here we have Delieverance Trembly living in Salem with her sister Mem who is sickly. Their parents are dead and their uncle has disappered Delieverance is trying not to let anyone discover they are alone but her worries are subsided by events unfolding in Salem. As a witness to the Witch Trials, Delieverance is surprised by what's going on and when one of her friends is accused of being a witch Delieverance grows suspicious of the trials. You can feel her worries, fear and horror at watching her town where she thought she knew everyone try and hang neighbors.
