Product Description
Sensual. Seductive. Emotional. No one stirs the heart and imagination like Mary Balogh. In this classic novel, the New York Times bestselling author weaves a spellbinding tale of two people haunted by desire, unable to resist the love that has become their most passionate obsession.…

When James Purnell walks into the London drawing room and sees Lady Madeline Raine, time stops. Once she had been his for the taking. Now she is an aloof, beautiful stranger, determined to keep the devilishly handsome nobleman from seducing her again. But after four years apart, desire reignites—swift, hot, irresistible—culminating in a night of reckless lovemaking. Suddenly Madeline is faced with an unbearable choice: marry with no hope of love or risk certain ruin. Her decision will have consequences she never imagined, as she makes a shocking discovery about the man she secretly loves. What she doesn’t know is how far James will go to right the wrongs of the past—and how much he’s willing to risk for the woman who already owns him…body, heart, and soul.

1 out of 5 starsWhy did I make myself finish this book???, 2008-09-01
Apparently, I have a masochistic side. This was dreadful. I guess I felt obligated to finish it because I had spent so much time trying to piece the storyline and multiple characters together. I didn't realize that this was part of a series, and it was incredibly difficult to keep up with everyone. However, I could have gotten past that - had the story been worth it...but, these two characters were simply miserable! Page after page of their bickering, fighting, misunderstandings - it was painful. Don't waste your time.

1 out of 5 starsNever received, 2008-06-18
I paid for book and waited for a month and questioned why I hadn't gotten it and they never returned my email or refunded my money. I wouldn't recommend doing business with them if you want what you pay for. As far as I am concerned they stole money from me.

2 out of 5 starsDevils Web, 2008-06-18
Very problematical. It is like 'Simply Love', which I read once and never would again, much too full of sorrow, pain, totally frustrated love. I had the feeling that "why the hell did Mary Balogh write this book?" The story of two people getting together is always a bit complicated, but "Devil's Web" and "Simply Love" overdo it to the max.

5 out of 5 starsExcellent book true to the characters, 2008-05-28
The depth of the characters and the challenges that their conflicting emotions created made this plot very exciting to follow. Mary Balogh develops their complex relationship masterfully. While I can see how some can be frustrated by this book and I wished that the resolution of the relationship between Madelien and James could have started sooner and been developed more, I think that this book is unique and exceptional and I wished there were more books exploring complex characters and deeper conflicts.

1 out of 5 starsJust say no..., 2008-05-19
Too bad I didn't read the reviews before I started the book. What a stinker. Look, I get the brooding hero, I even LIKE the brooding hero, but I've never liked STUPID brooding heroes. And the holes... Case in point: James and his father spent pages screeching about Dora "the slut." Gee, it would be nice to know how James resolved his feelings over the charge after he learned her story. But no. Then there was the whole "She likes to fight. If there is nothing to fight, she gives in" to explain Madeline's idiocy. What?? And the ending...just horrid. So obviously tacked on that I'm surprised the publisher didn't just insert a blank page beforehand. You know, it's sad when the only story I found interesting was that of Jean and Howard, especially given that he was supposedly the "dull" one.
