Shot in the head by an unknown assailant, San Francisco private eye Sharon McCone finds herself trapped by locked-in syndrome: almost total paralysis but an alert, conscious mind. Since the late-night attack occurred at her agency's offices, the natural conclusion was that it was connected to one of the firm's cases. As Sharon lies in her hospital bed, furiously trying to break out of her body's prison and discover her attacker's identity, all the members of her agency fan out to find the reason why she was assaulted. Meanwhile, Sharon becomes a locked-in detective, evaluating the clues from her staff's separate investigations and discovering unsettling truths that could put her life in jeopardy again. As the case draws to a surprising and even shocking conclusion, Sharon's husband, Hy, must decide whether or not to surrender to his own violent past and exact fatal vengeance when the person responsible is identified.

 A Big Disappointment, 2010-03-08
I have read every one of Marcia Muller's books. I so look forward to the publication of each one; I am reunited with a cast of characters that have become good friends. "Locked In" has a weak plot, superficial characterizations of folks previously described as strong, slight content in depth and word count, and felt unbelievable from beginning to end. Compared to the Sara Paretsky book I just finished, Muller's latest is a sad sample of mystery writing. I am sorry, Ms. Muller - - - you are one of my favorite writers. I look forward to the next Sharon McCone story and hope it will be more reminiscent of the earlier wonderfully written novels.

Good as ever, 2010-03-04
Muller has done it again with her new McCone mystery. A great read. As a native San Franciscan I love the setting of the city and its surround and can relate to story even more. I'm looking forward to the next McCone mystery.

Locked In, 2010-02-14
Marcia Muller never disappoints. Very interesting concept. My only criticism it was too short. I like the character Sharon McCone. I'm hoping her and Hy have a unexpected baby. No... maybe not. It was a page turner. I like all the agency people being involved. Can't wait until the next book.

What an excellent divise to have your heroine "locked in" in a coma while trying to solve her own shooting. The author wove the supporting cast beautifully while developing the heroine! I thought this her best one yet!!

 Surprising disappointment!, 2010-02-06
I got my Kindle for Christmas and downloaded some of my favorite authors right away. This last book in M. Muller's McCone series is a startling disappointment after reading all of the previous works. I'm trying to finish it, but it just seems to drag on and on. I'll be glad when I'm done and can move on to my next book.
