Product Description
Praise for Shared Services A Manager's Journey

"In Shared Services: A Manager's Journey, Dan presents the real business cultural challenges along with human factors when taking on such a change in a company's processes. A must-read for any executive, manager, or team member who is considering, decided to, or is already in the process of converting a company from a decentralized organization to a shared services environment."

-Katherine M. Ericsson Vice President of Membership, Project Management Institute of South Florida and director of a project management office, in a shared services environment within the distribution industry

"A how-to/survival guide for those thinking about entering shared services or beginning the journey...for the rest of us, an entertaining look back at our journey both professionally and personally. A great read!"

-Steve K. Stone Senior Vice President and CFO, Newspapers and Shared Services Morris Communications Company

"Over the past fifteen years, I've had the pleasure of working directly with hundreds of companies who are implementing shared services. What is striking is how very different 'real experiences' are from the stories spun by consultants or keynote speakers at conferences. Getting to the 'real truth' of how to put the pieces together will help you keep consulting fees low and the probability of success high. This book is a practical guide created by someone who has been there. It is the truth!"

-Mike Hostetler Managing Director, Shared Services Roundtable Corporate Executive Board

Excellent concept to share with the reader the nuts and bolts of running shared services environment through an interactive story.
The points and ideas covered by this book and the Top 25 List that summarized the concepts are very insightful for any organization that is planning to start a shared services organization or benchmark or enhance their existing shared services environment. Not only does it shared these best practices and ideas with the readers in a concise and illustrative manner but also is an entertaining book with real life characters and experiences.
I enjoyed this book very much and it also made me thing of some things to improve my managerial and consultative skills.

This book is a fantastic read, regardless whether you are a beginner or a seasoned executive. It proves to provide an excellent insight into the methodology behind implementing and managing shared services, in a cost conscious manner. What makes it stand apart from the rest of publications written on the subject is not only the practical step by step instruction that is easy to follow and understand, but also the human factor which is key in creating and running any successful organization.

I don't want to give away the ending but the Top 25 list was invaluable. I wish I would have read this book 2 years ago.

5 out of 5 starsInformative and enjoyable, 2007-11-07
A very enjoyable read that provides a tremendous amount of information in a very easy to understand format. The dialogue between the characters really explained many concepts and allowed me to understand why certain actions were taken. The focus on the human side of managing a shared services center is very rare and really touches on what it takes to establish a solid foundation for success. A great read for anyone that works in a shared services center or manages people.
