Solid Primer to Commodity Trading, 2008-11-06
First I need to disclose that Kevin Kerr has made me money via his recommendations while he was with Agora Financial. I currently do not belong to his independent newsletter.
Prior to reading his book I had a basic understanding of commodities and options. I didn't read the book to specifically learn more about options. I read Mr. Kerr's book because he is very successful at what he does and I like to read books written by successful people in their relative field.
Mr. Kerr's book is best used as a basic concept book to understand trading options. The book is written well and is a page turner, unlike other investment books I have read.
Mr. Kerr describes everything through his experience- which is unique. He ascended from a philosophy graduate to a runner to a successful trader. Not taking anything away from Mr. Kerr, his book indirectly teaches a valuable life lesson: It is more "who" you know than "what" you know to open doors.
Once Mr. Kerr got his foot in the door he then kicked it open with his smarts and hard work.
I would rate this books as a good "primer" book. It is knowledgable, insightful, entertaining and covers the basics to options.
I would like to reiterate advice Mr. Kerr gave regarding a broker, which is find a good one and never mind the fee. That extra advice over a do-it-yourself approach (to which I prefer) can save you big bucks. (I know my commodities and option broker has saved me- and made me- money that I would have lost if I was on my own).

 Don't waste your money!, 2008-07-23
This book was VERY disappointing! I kept waiting for him to present strategies, analyses, etc., but all it really is is an "infomercial" for his newsletter. I got more useful information about commodity investing from one (FREE, by the way) Motley Fool website article than I got out of this entire book!

Nothing new for experienced traders, 2008-06-02
I have read about fifty books on investing and this one is weak on substance. I am sure Kevin is a good trader and I read his articles online, but this foray into book writing is weak. I would only recommend it for the true novice.

 Guide to trading in the commodity markets - to be taken with a grain of salt , 2007-12-07
If you are looking for a strong point of view that boosts the optimists' side of commodities trading, this is it. But Kevin Kerr's assurance that you can make money by trading commodities does not take into account the real risks involved, and could mislead potential traders. The truth is that the odds are stacked strongly against any investor, particularly in the now nearly-extinct open-outcry pit trading that Kerr discusses at length. However, his rundown of the basic facts about the commodities markets will give you a start in learning about this arcane investment science. We suggest that it may fit in as one among many texts you might want to study before jumping into the pit.

A truly awful book that entirely misses any potential audience, 2007-08-30
If you know anything about trading or commodities, this book will not enlighten you with any new insights -- and if you don't know anything about commodities, there are better introductions (actually, if you don't know anything about trading commodities, don't get started now: today's volatile markets are too treacherous for neophytes).
