5 out of 5 starsKaren's Ghost, 2008-08-04
ISBN 059043649x - As usual, Martin's BSLS series is well done. The only negative, a small one, is that I don't think Karen's Ghost is all that good alone. As part of the series, it adds to things; alone, it's kind of average. I'm giving it 5 stars mostly as a nod to what it adds to the series.

Halloween is coming and Karen is spooking herself out with thoughts of Morbidda Destiny and Ben Brewer. This is all just good old Halloween fun for Karen, but as the class prepares for a party - where spooky stories will be told - she decides to learn more about her reclusive great-grandfather Ben and his ghost. With Kristy's help, Karen finds a diary that has some answers and one of those answers is REALLY scary: Ben has a haunted birthday party in the attic every ten years... and this is going to be one of them!

These kids are hilarious - for example, Nancy's certainty that a leprechaun stole her charm bracelet because she found it in her underwear drawer, where she never keeps it. The lack of any actual logic makes the girls very real and very funny. Between that and their youthful "marriages", they're 100% spot-on and Martin... Martin is a genius. Plus, added bonus for the not-eager-to-read set, when the teacher says read a book over 100 pages, these JUST fill the bill. RL3 ages 7-9

5 out of 5 starsAnn M. Martin in action!, 2006-02-25
Karen's Ghost is a great book for kids! I love all of the details when Karen and Kristy, the main characters, step into Ben Brewer's room. Ben Brewer had died years ago, so Karen thought that he would be a ghost! Anyway Karen and Kristy see all of the old dusty dressers and desks. It is like you are inside of the book!
Ann M. Martin is a great book writer! I would NOT be able to write over 50 books about the same people like she has. Ann M. Martin tried her best to write a series of books now called: The Baby Sitter's Club, the best books ever! Read, write, and express yourself!

Karen's Ghost is an exciting book that you would want to keep reading and reading. Ann M.Martin is the author of this book. You might have read other books by her like The Baby Sitters Club. The setting takes place at school, outside and at Karen's stepdad's house. Karen is the main character.

Karen wants to have the best scary story for her class because it is Halloween. Karen believes that her grandfather has been haunted by a ghost so now he is a ghost. Karen and her sister find his journal. The journal says that her grandfather will have a haunted birthday with his friends. Find out if Karen's grandpa is a real ghost and if he will have a haunted birthday by reading "Karen's Ghost".

I recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries and is between the ages of 7-11. I thought this book was excellent, exciting, and I couldn't get my nose out of it. I hope you might want to read this book some day.

3 out of 5 starsI wasn't scared, 2005-08-09
the ben brewer story she told in class wasn't even scary and people freaked out. She believes her deceased great grandfather ben lives on the fourth floor and wants to learn more so she and kristy do research and find his diary and learn some creepy things that freak her out during halloween but they all turn out to be coincidences. But someone needs to tell karen that ghosts aren't all evil and huant you. When somene dies they may be gone physically but their spirit still is watching over you and that's not necessarily a creepy thing at all.

I think this was an okay book. It was about a little girl who had two families. She went through a lot just to find out a ghost's story. The ghost's name was Ben Brewer. Karen is commited to finding out what happened to this ghost because she wants to have the best ghost story in her class. I like someone who is commited to something. I reccomend this to any one who likes an adventurios ghost story that isn't to scary. That is why I am giving it three stars.
