Product Description This 288 page book began as a Ph.D. dissertation. It is an easy to read reference commentary which also contains many Greek and Hebrew word studies, and an extensive bibliography. Every tithing text is covered, plus every possible extension of it in the New Testament. The author demonstrates how the Church must replace this last taboo remnant of the Old Covenant Law and enter fully into must better New Covenant provisions for accomplishing God's work. No stone is left uncovered. A thorough historical survey of the first 300 years of church history and verse by verse studies of key chapters adds compelling evidence. Instructions to Gentile Believers is in the book of Acts 15 :19, 2008-09-17 This is a very interesting book. My first church was in a low income area but people out of a job on umemployment or government asst. were still expected to tithe, including single or divorced mothers with young children. At no time was help given to them, yet the Pastor lived in the lap of luxury with expensive cars & two homes in upscale neighborhoods (not in the low-income area of his church members). This was grossly unfair to have the church leadership pronounce cursing on already finacially depressed members. It left a bitter taste in my heart to mistreat the poor this way. With what little resources I had I tried to help out the poor in our church at Xmas & Holidays.
There is going to come a time when churches are going to have to trust the Lord with their finances and tell the truth about what the Scriptures say to Gentiles about the Tithe. As more discerning Christians challenge this twisting of the New Testament Scriptures and start studying indept their Bibles-the Authorized versions, a revolt is bound to take place,(not the add-on or changed cult counterfeit Bibles used by cults groups). I learned the truth by carefully studing my Bible daily with a Berean mindset (the Apostle Paul commended the Bereans for doing that). I discovered that Gentile Believers were never taught to tithe only the Jews/Jewish nation.See Acts 15 esp verses 19-28. However, those who loves the Lord should give cheerfully to support the Pastor & Church workers (without needing the kinds of intimidation, Scriptures that condemn & repeat OT curses as well as other pressure tactics that are often used in many churches today).
With the down turn of todays depressed economy and when people experience hard times there is going to be grumblings over Churches that do not find a way to help their members in dire need. Churches must create innovative ways to give out job referral, financial assistance, or resource information or at least give out a list of other charitable organization. When people are faithfully paying their tithes then can't get help when they fall on hard times, this could lead to resentment or disappointment, which is a frequently heard complaint. As churches grow into Mega churches they must discover a way to not drop the ball in being sensitive to the needs of the congregation such as visiting the sick, with follow-ups,etc Most secular businesses that are insensitive to the needs of its consumers lose customers. Insensitive Churches that are being run like businesses have many problems with keeping their members from acting like wondering sheep. By the way the word paying (tithes) seems like a payment to God. There is nothing we own that does not already belong to him, including the air we breathe in our lungs. Shame on people who can give to God and don't but double shame to churches that teach giving to get rich or scare tactics in order to manipulate people into giving!

Excellent book!, 2007-08-30 The author has demonstrated through overwhelming biblical evidence that tithing is not for Christians today. I wish Christians would study the scriptures he quotes and follow the Word of God instead of the words of some pastors who follow a tradition instituted by the Catholic church hundreds of years after Christ. Jesus and all the apostles never taught tithing. They taught the concept of free will giving. Apostle Paul even contradicts tithing in 2 Cor 9:7-10 "Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
Beside the numerous New Testament biblical evidence stating that we are no longer under the old law, Dr. Kelly shows through his Old Testament biblical text proofing that even if were still under the law, we are only allowed to tithe to the Levite priesthood which no longer exists. This is the reason Jewish Rabbis who strictly follow the Old Testament today do not collect tithes, to do so would be a sin, instead they tell the congregations to tithe to the poor or to a charity.
I recommend this book to any Christian who wishes to explore the bible in great detail on this topic. Dr. Kelly takes you on an excellent study relying more on the Word of God than personal opinions.

A great book. A must have, 2007-08-24 You should know what the scriptures show about this subject.
90% of those who tithe can't answer the most basic questions about it.
How can you be dead and hid in Christ, and under a curse at the same time?
Why is it that Jesus is the True fullfillment of **ALL** that is in the Old testament accept one thing..... the tithe?
Wisdom cries in the gates of this book.
Prove all things.
A good purchase :)

If You Read One Book on the Doctrine of Tithing..., 2007-08-19 If you read one book on the doctrine of tithing, let it be this one.

The Standard for books concerning the tithing issue, 2007-08-06 This is easily the best book on the topic of tithing out there. It is professionally done and well-written. Not only will the reader learn truths about tithing that are not revealed in church, there is a great deal of quality teaching concerning priesthoods and the new covenant.
The only questions I might have are that the author believes that in the old covenant there were three distinct and separate tithes taken. It is my opinion that there was only one annual tithe, spent in three different ways according to the tithe cycle, with every 7th and 50th year having no tithe requirements at all (sabbath rest for the land... the tithe, after all, was food and never money!)
This is a book you can dive into and get something new in multiple readings of the same chapters. Kelly even discusses in-depth the secular history of tithing, as well as how the practice crept into Christian circles well after the early church (Which, of course, never mandated a 10-percent temple-tax to build churches, pay pastors, or influence politics.)
Your pastor will hate it, but God loves it.
The truth will set you free; this book will help loosen the bonds of finacial voo-doo that the mainstream church preaches today.
