Product Description
With nowhere to go, no one to help her, Leigh fled into the arms of Luke Casteel! Leigh Van Voreen had to escape from Boston's Farthinggale Manor. The foul secret she harbored within her seemed to darken her life forever. Jillian, her mother, would not believe her...and Tony Tatterton, her stepfather, had betrayed her most cruelly.

But the pure devotion of Luke Casteel promised her hope and respect. Only Luke knew her deepest of secrets...only Luke would love and protect her. Bravely she bore the suspicions of the Willies' hillfolk, as she tried to grasp the happiness that had so long eluded her. Leigh prayed with all her heart that her bright, shining dreams would save her from tragedy at last...

3 out of 5 starsLazy Ghost Writer, 2008-08-25
I loved the first three books in the Casteel series; Heaven had so many admirable qualities. And I don't mind V.C.Andrews' books having very similar dark subject matter. My big issue is with the Ghost Writer's blatant laziness. Heaven and Leigh and Annie all describing the sitting room with the subtle oriental designs in the same exact words, for example, and Tony repeating several identical sentences to each girl. Any original statements were less articulate than in the first two books. But I enjoyed Leigh's bonding with little Troy, and was fascinated by heartless selfish Jillian. Leigh's optimism about life in the Willies was so different from Heaven's realistic view of tough times. And I liked that
because of Leigh's age, Farthy's beauty could be described in such a dreamy way.

3 out of 5 starsNot a bad book, 2008-04-25
But...For some reason on this new cover Leigh looks like Daryl Hannah and she also looks about 30 years old. She was 14. What was wrong with the other cover? It was much better.

Anyway, this book doesn't sink to some of the levels of suckage that the ghostwriter sinks to in his later books, but he also gets a bunch of things wrong. Tony was supposed to be a blonde, not have dark brown hair. He opted for the innocent approach with Leigh's character and left out any darker motivations that were hinted at in the first three books. He also copied a bunch of passages straight out of her other novels.

I remember him getting a lot more wrong, but I don't feel like getting the book and looking up all his mistakes.

Not bad, but he's done worse.

2 out of 5 starsDisappointing, 2007-07-28
I read this book last in the Casteel series. I was hoping for more passionate characters and passion in general. Leigh's character didn't interest me at all and she reminded me somewhat of Annie in the previous novel (whom I didn't care for). There were no new secrets revealed and it moved really slowly. So much potential is lost with the ghost writer.

5 out of 5 starsAbsolutely Her Finest Story, 2007-05-22
Before I read Web of Dreams I was skeptical as I didn't think VC could improve on the story of Heaven Casteel. But once I picked it up, I could not put it down. What happens to this twelve year old sweetheart (mother of Heaven) is tragic. VC Andrews has written many books that have made me cry (and I am a man), but this story will not let go of me. I think it should be made into a movie.

3 out of 5 starsNot as good as it could've been..., 2006-11-17
This book is the prequel in the Casteel series and is the story of Heaven's mother, Leigh. However, there is a prologue and epilogue done by Heaven's daughter, Annie, so this really should be read last.

The book begins on a sad note when Annie and Luke Jr. attend Troy Tatterton's funeral. In Jillian's suite, Annie finds Leigh's diary, and reads her story.

Leigh is around 12 when her parents Jillian and Cleave split up. Jillian marries the much younger Tony Tatterton, and Leigh gains a little brother, 3-year-old Troy. Leigh is sad about all of this; she learns some shocking truths about her birth and becomes disappointed in her mother. And although she takes instantly to little Troy, she's unsure about how to take Tony.

No problem...Tony makes a portrait doll of Leigh and has her pose nude, all the while making his vile plans to degrade her. And he does...he rapes her a couple of times, and at 13, she ends up pregnant with Heaven. She confronts her mother, who blames Leigh. Leigh runs away, planning to go live with her maternal grandmother in Texas, but never makes it there.

She ends up in Atlanta and meets the young Luke Casteel, himself only 17. They fall in love in only a day after she confesses the truth to him, and he vows to take her back to Winnerrow and take care of her. They marry at the circus, then head back to his parents' cabin in the mountains. Leigh goes from riches to rags instantly, but doesn't care because she's found her true love. As for Luke, he would never love anyone else as much as he loved Leigh.

Leigh survives a tough autumn and winter; then in February, she begins experiencing labor pains. The story ends there, with Annie then reading a letter from the detective agency that Tony hired which stated that Leigh had died in childbirth and that the child, a girl, survived. Luke Jr. then finds Annie and they go downstairs to attend to Troy's funeral. Ends on a very sad note.

This is better than "Gates of Paradise", but only when Troy or Luke Sr. are involved in the story. Still, add this to your collection. It's better than Annie's story in the previous book.
