Product Description
Love hurts.
While FBI agent Kelly Feinman is recovering from an attack by a serial killer called the "Acid Man," her husband leaves her. Physically and emotionally scarred by the murderer, Kelly feels she will never be the same. She is cut off not only from her husband and child, but also from her fellow FBI agents, who see her as a rogue for going after the Acid Man alone.
Love is hell.
Matt Connor’s love for his girlfriend, Amy, is so intense that he feels he is in heaven when he is with her. When Amy leaves him for another man, Matt is shattered. In agony, he plans a diabolical scheme that first calls for him to disappear from the face of the earth. His revenge will make Amy wish she had never been born.
Love can heal.
Matt’s act of vengeance puts him in charge of Amy's infant son. He discovers a soothing warmth in Jimmy's eyes that makes him wonder if Amy's betrayal truly merited wrecking the child's life. Yet Matt’s heart cannot be made whole until he has won Amy back.
Kelly cannot be made whole until she understands the depth of evil that lurks behind the Acid Man. Ironically, to rid herself and the world of her nemesis, she must seek out Matt Connor, a wanted man she has been ordered to bring to justice.

What's with the repeat plot lines lately???, 2008-07-07 Ahh, I am getting so frustrated with Pike's books lately! I loved this author so much in high school, both his YA and adult books, esp Season of Passage, Gimme a Kiss, See You Later, Fall Into Darkness, etc etc.
What's frustrating to me is that I know Pike can come up with truly original, interesting, spellbinding characters and stories. But his last two adult books are blatant reworkings of earlier YA books. Blind Mirror has strong similarities to Spellbound and Lost Mind and his latest, Falling, distinctly reminds me of Fall into Darkness and Gimme a Kiss and even The Listeners somewhat.
Pike does have similar themes in many of his books--spiritulism, weird lizard creatures, body hopping. It's not the first time I've noticed this, but I really want to see something new from Pike. He will always be one of my favorites and I will read anything new that he puts out, but I'm starting to lose some enthusiasm here.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!, 2008-04-14 Christopher Pike is 1 of the few that can write many books on various themes{ever notice how most writers just stick 2 1 theme in many of their books????}Not Pike I still read his young adult I admit but this book....surpassed even his extraordinary knack of storytelling & I know I can re read this over & over & over again & highly recommend this {though I wish he would make the sequel to The Cold One {hint hint}

first off, must admit i'm biased when it comes to Pike, 2008-03-15 ...for i am yet another years-long fan; been reading his since i was a kid and love them all. have the entire collection and will not give them up for anything. they occupy a special section of my library.
'Falling': this was a great book but i have to agree with others that it's not his best. the dialogue was a complete joke, some of the characters/villains were completely unreal (although i always love when he makes them larger than life i.e. Charlie) and there were so many loopholes i lost count. also, i knew this one didn't have me hooked b/c it took me almost a week to finish it.
what did i like about it? must admit i LOVED kelly. she was one tough chick and i enjoyed every minute she was on the page. i really liked matt as well, but Pike really loves to throw the curveballs and he kept me guessing. do i like matt? should i root for him? but wait he's turning out bad now. ok now what. is he the good guy or what? did that wench amy finally turn him south?
that's the crazy thing about Pike he messes with your emotions, your sense of right and wrong and definitely keeps you guessing. i have to agree with another reviewer that if this book was written by a different author i would have stopped reading but this novel still had a bit of that "Pike-magic" and so i kept it goin'.
to the rest of the negative reviewers: perhaps most of us are matching a youth-adult book author to true adult novelists and of course he's going to fall flat in comparison; enjoy the genre for what it is and leave the rest out of it - if you're looking for Harris or Koontz quality then read Harris or Koontz. Pike is in his niche and we like him right where he is.
want my advice? if you have never read a Pike book before, do not start with this one. read 'The Blind Mirror': it's one of his best works and best showcases his story-writing. i don't think you'll be disappointed in that one but in this one you just might be.
love you Pike; can't wait to read the next one.

Fast Read, 2008-02-22 Entertaining story! Wild and far fetched with lots of twists and turns. I hope Pike comes out with another adult novel soon!
