Product Description
When Mouse takes a stroll through the woods, he meets a fox, an owl, and a snake who all want to eat him! So Mouse invents a gruffalo, a monster with "terrible tusks and terrible claws, terrible teeth, and terrible jaws." But will Mouse's frightful description be enough to scare off his foes? After all, there's no such thing as a gruffalo . . . is there? Sturdy pages and a cozy trim make this rhyming read-aloud perfect for preschoolers. Winner of the prestigious British Smarties Prize.

5 out of 5 starsMy favorite book!!, 2008-11-06
When I was pregnant with my first son, I was buying xmas presents for a couple nephews and decided to buy them books. Because of the great reviews, I bought this one for one of my nephews. I read it before I wrapped it and fell in LOVE with it!! I even read it to my husband afterwards because it is such a cute, clever story!! After I gave it as a gift, I bought one for myself. I've been reading this book regularly to my son...who is now 18 months old...and neither him nor I have grown tired of it. I have since bought another one for a friend's baby shower and have recommended it to others. Since buying The Gruffalo, I have bought almost all of the books by Julia Donaldson/Axel Scheffler. Their books are sooo wonderful, I can't believe that they aren't more well known.

5 out of 5 starsHands Down One of the Best Children's Books, 2008-10-10
This is seriously one of the best children's books out there. The writing and rythym are fluid and the story line is very captivating.

I have a 4 year-old faux-niece that I read to relatively often. I will read anything she asks, but this is one book that I ask to read to her.

The book is good for kids of all ages. The story is fun to hear and can have a deeper meaning when the kid is mentally ready.

5 out of 5 starsGreat book for kids, 2008-06-02
My kids love this book! We initially checked it out from the library but we had to renew it so often that I finally bought a copy. It is fun to read because of it's sing-songy rhythm. The story is fun, too. This is a family-favorite.

5 out of 5 starsGood story, 2008-01-12
My daughters love the story. The little mouse is a clever guy who is shows that you don't need to be big and strong to win... but smart. The illustrations are colorful and happy and well done. The sequel "Gruffalo's child" is not as good. But the "Snail and the Whale" and "Room in the Broom" are even better than this one :)
