Product Description atrick F. McManus's wry wit has made him an American classic, his trademark outdoorsman's humor endearing him not only to fellow wilderness enthusiasts but to anyone who enjoys a good laugh. In his newest collection of hilarious essays, he ponders the strange allure of the RV, a thirtieth-century hunting trip, the art of wrestling toads, the existential implications of being lost, the baffling tendency of animals to outsmart hunters, the singular pleasure of doubling the size of every fish that gets away, and what happens when a bear named Pooky decides to hibernate in the attic. Combining the curmudgeonly voice of Dave Barry and the clever insights of Garrison Keillor with his own keen sense of the absurd, McManus brilliantly captures the funny and strange in our everyday existence, while managing to evoke a childlike wonder at the natural world.

McManus is the funniest guy around., 2008-07-31 McManus is my favorite humorist and this book is classic McManus. Should be on every book shelf. I reread it over and over and still bust a gut.

This Bear does satisfy my hunger, 2008-01-16 Having read most everything McManus has written, I was pleased to find something new (to me). Although it is not written in the snorting-laugh-with-tears-invoking style of his, it is still good stuff, and a fun read for McManus fans. Or for those who don't like to snort and cry when laughing.

A voice from the past, 2006-11-13 McManus brings a view of a life style that was common in rural areas of the west and the Appalachian mountains of the east. In my youth, I experienced a lot of Appalachian adventures very similar to those of which he writes. His characters are very similar to the ones that I knew. Your ribs hurt by the time you finish his story.

The funniest author ever does it again!, 2006-11-03 This book is hilarious! It is a collection of short stories that can make even the most serious readers laugh out loud. Seriously! And not just smile or snicker, but LAUGH! I cannot reccomend this book highly enough.

any patrick mcmanus book, 2005-10-22 As a middle school reading teacher, with 35 years of experience, I can tell you that this is the one author I recommed for reluctant readers, especially boys. I discovered this author when our second son decided he didn't like to read. Well, he didn't read much but he loved Outdoor Life and the books by Mr. McManus.
I would encourage parents and teachers to read these books and find the attraction these will have on boys of middle school age.
