Some good content, but lots of mistakes., 2007-05-25
This book has some good practical information about the manufacturing of gears. The problem is that there is a lot of mistakes and typos. In the book when you get it is a two sided sheet of paper that lists all the known errors. Would I buy it again...yes, probably becasue there is so few books about gear manufacturing. If they came out with a new edition that fixed the errors, that would be great.

A helpful book, but doesn't stand on it's own, 2007-05-16
For the price I expected this book to be better and I have certainly purchased better books, but it did offer some useful information in areas of machining and heat treating. This book was helpful in identifying different types of gears and gear manufacturing, but becomes tedious toward the middle. The author explains different heat treating and hardening techniques in easy to follow terms. It is also somewhat cheaply made. It does, however, provide a helpful list of books and publications at the end.
