Product Description
Developing Performance Indicators for Managing Maintenance is designed to provide the key details on how to measure and improve one of the most important functions in an organization today: Equipment or Asset Maintenance Management. As one of only a handful of comprehensive collections of performance indicators for managing maintenance in print today, this book is distinguished by its use of techniques based on a variety of management measurement systems, such as the Balanced Scorecard approach. While the previous edition primarily concentrated on the basic indicators for managing maintenance and how to link them to a company’s financials, this new edition goes further by also addressing recent advancements in the management of maintenance. This book is an invaluable tool for any company that wants to effectively measure and manage the entire spectrum of maintenance activities to help achieve competitive advantage. Such companies view maintenance as a way to reduce costs of producing their product or providing their services and are intent on using this cost advantage to lower prices, improve profit margins, and improve shareholder value.

4 out of 5 starsGreat place to get started, 2008-04-13
As others have written, this book is a great start. The sections on each aspect of maintenance activities is broken down clearly. The only problem I had with the book is the lack of detail he sometime had on how a person would try to select the records he mentions in a given KPI. Otherwise if your Maintenance Dept is just starting out to use KPI's to monitor maintenance activities, this book is a great resource to get ideas going on how you want to monitor your department's progress.

4 out of 5 starsMetrics Ratios, 2007-02-09
This book is a truly useful product. Wireman gives a great overview of each of the maintenance management programs/philosophies and compares each by its outcomes. There are many, many examples of metric ratios with very clear explanations of what the metric is actually measuring and also what some of the pitfalls are if the data used in the metric is not accurate. I recommend this book as a useful library item for proposal writers (particularly in the government contracting arena) and for maintenance engineers looking to improve performance using KPI's.

3 out of 5 starsA good starting point, 2000-04-29
This book is primarily a "directory" on how to measure and then improve equipment maintenance management. Mr Wireman describes the basic methods of maintenance with chapters on the pros and cons of preventative maintenance, RCM, TPM and computerised maintenance managing software. It then describes the performance measures that can be used to effectively manage maintenance. This is a very good book for engineers wanting to improve the maintenance function, but if you are after a handbook on how to set up a PM, RCM or TPM program then this isn't the book you want.
