Dipping my toe in the deep end., 2008-11-23 After buying more general writing books, I've greatly enjoyed the Elements of Writing series as my first try at depth of knowledge instead of breadth. Conflict, Action, and Suspense was no exception. While it still covers a variety of areas, it focuses on using them to best effect. It lays out the tools that will need to be mastered with examples of them in action.
This is not the first or last writing book that you'll ever need, but it is a solid piece of any collection.

This books should have been called "Exclamation points! Italics! Cliches!", 2008-09-29 The title is misleading - I didn't get what I paid for. This is a book that claims to offer enlightenment on elements of conflict, action and suspense without actually engaging in any of those topics. Instead we hear about melodrama, soap operas etc with some very cliched and tired tidbits on dialogue and short, choppy sentences (which anyone with basic writing ability knows anyway). Be warned, the author's definitions of these elements are vastly different to what you and I may define as conflict, action and suspense, and as a result wildly misses the mark. In short, this reeks of a direct transcription of a community college course for absolute novices to the craft.

Excellent, 2008-03-27 Kudos to Mr. Noble. I found this book to quite insightful and well written. It has tremendous information and examples so very well explained. A must for anyone who is writing a story or screenplay. It could be considered a blue print for success.

Conflict, Action and Suspense, 2007-10-25 If you're an aspiring writer, you'll probably want to have this book. Through step-by-step instructions, Conflict, Action and Suspense reitarates a great deal of practical ideas on how to develope your storytelling ability. However,if you've read the other tittles on the series Elements of Fiction Writing, you'd still like to own this book, but to use it as a follow-up to brush up on the basic elements of fiction writing. Generally, I found this book enjoyable and instructive; each point well-presented through examples that made the reading much more comprehensive and informative.

A handy keep-on-hand reference, 2007-07-27 My copy of this book is now dog eared, flagged, noted, highlighted and generally well used. The author gives pertinent information in an engaging format. I have found this book very handy in instilling the "frame of reference" for writing conflict that is technically well-executed. This was a quick read that gave a pretty good bang-for-the-buck.
