5 out of 5 starsCLASSIC NEEDS TO BE READ A THOUSAND TIMES, 2008-08-27
The only downside of this classic is its size. If the publisher can make it smaller and easier to carry, that'll be even better.

Because this is one of those books which you can just skim through once or twice. It takes years to master everything it mentioned.

Then you'll be the real master.

5 out of 5 starsFor Advanced Elliott Wave Students/Practicioners..., 2008-08-25
I've been trading spot FX markets, equities, and options for over 3 years now and I can say that without a doubt the most influential book in my technical trading library has to be Mr. Neely's wave material. I worked to develop practical Elliott wave strategies trading the EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/CHF for over 18 months before actually immersing myself into Neely's material and honestly I am glad I did. His material focuses on the nuances of Elliott wave which is especially useful during corrective markets. While this information isn't necessary for turning a profit, it does give a more holistic approach to market analysis and the development of impulse/corrective cycles. Many Elliott texts focus only on the development of impulse waves and don't offer much practical insight in the corrective patterns yet, from a practical standpoint, the markets are in corrections the majority of the time.

(P.S. This has been especially good for analyzing equities over the last few years...)

Don't get me wrong, Neely's book isn't perfect by any stretch. I wondered many times if his editor/publisher owned a spell-checker. Also, Chapter 3 is about as arcane as everyone else says...but it's useful if you spend time with it. And in my opinion (as a trader) the book actually is more for an Elliott wave analyst than a trader. BUT...I've seen far worse from other authors. Neely is not only a well-versed student in Elliott's principle, but he is also a scientist (something I can also relate to).

After reading most of the negative reviews, I had to wonder how many were actually looking for the 'Holy Grail of Trading' when they purchased the book instead of an objective, scientific method to trading. For those who doubt the efficacy of Elliott Wave in general: you shouldn't even read this book. For those who want Elliott made easy: this isn't a title for you, either. But if you don't mind spending time with a calculator (or spreadsheet), this book, and some charts...this is definitely a way to separate yourself from the rest of the aimless trading/investing herd.

Caveat Emptor: For those looking to make money using technical analysis and Elliott wave, I recommend reading Robert C. Miner's Dynamic Trading: Dynamic Concepts in Time, Price, and Pattern Analysis with Practical Strategies for Traders and Investors First. I learned how to make money with that book. I just learned how to make MORE and manage risk better using Neely's book. There's a difference and it's profound, depending on your level of trading proficiency.

2 out of 5 starsNeely Wave is more like it, 2008-02-24
I'm not sure what Mr. Neely should best call his analysis technique, but it is most definitely not Elliott Wave...this book would have to be the Apocrypha/Pseudepigrapha to the Precter and Frost canon.

4 out of 5 starsvery good book, 2008-02-17
This is a good book if you want to expand on Elliott Wave analysis. I would not recommend it to the beginner. For a person familiar with the basics of Elliott Waves this book is gold. It shows you how to think outside of the square as far as how patterns should and can look. It made me realise that most of my wave analysis was flawed.
Some of the book is overkill, and i did not read some parts as they seemed to be overcomplicating things, especially the Neely system of labeling. Why reinvent the wheel.
This guy has obviously been very thorough in his work. He is obviously a very methodical thinker and objective observer.
I am very glad I bought this book, it has helped the unexplainable to become clear.

5 out of 5 starsNot a classic, but a secret revealed., 2008-01-14
If you want to use Elliott Waves in practical real trading there is nothing else, period. Prechter's book is a very distant second. I emphasize - FOR PRACTICAL TRADING. Otherwise Prechter's book is excellent and is a true classic.

But prepare yourself to read Neely's book many, and I mean MANY times before you start to feel that you GET IT. 9-10 times at least. And that is with paper and pen. But after you GET IT, you feel like you have wings when you look at the price charts.
