While I am ultimately at fault for not fully researching this offering before selecting the "add to my shopping cart", I would nonetheless say that your description is very misleading. This book is clearly designed only for those families interested and capable of traveling in a 5 star manner. Make no mistake, it is NOT for your average traveler, nor for those families below the well-healed status and income level.
I plan to return the book, whether I receive credit for it or not...

1 out of 5 starsDo Not Buy This Book, 2008-02-08
This is a truly awful book and will not assist you in planning a trip to Italy with your children. Unless you are interested in the personal exploits of two traveling chiropractors and their children with unbelievably dated and limited reviews I would strongly advise you to avoid this book. There are many other Italy with kids travel guides which will serve you well this one will not. This is the first book I have bought from Amazon that I have truly considered returning as it is useless and not a good read. I repeat its AWFUL

I am sorry I bought this book. I was looking for information on fun things to do with kids in Italy. This book is more about travelling to fancy resorts and eating in fine restaurants while your kids tag along. I was turned off instantly when the book recommended bringing gameboys! The authors seemed more interested in shopping, sports cars and fine dining, than cultural or active pursuits tailored to families. The book is more of a hotel guide with average room prices of $300/night, and not a very good one at that. It is difficult to determine exactly where each recommended property is located. If you are travelling on any kind of budget, don't bother wasting any of it on this book.

Finally, not just another budget family guide, but a true and reliable source for luxurious family Italian holidays! Great source for hotels and resorts that have fabulous amenities for kids and adults.

There are some really lovely hotels featured in this book that describes the hotel and the family's experience and encounters in each. I think that this family must have gotten complimentary rooms in exchange for promotion via this book and thus enjoyed their stays in some fine properties. I was looking more for ideas on traveling with kids in italy. Found more of that in the Italy Discovery Journal.
