Editorial Reviews
Book Description
Dating Rocks is a 240 page dating manifesto that outlines everything a woman should do to find, date and keep a man -- from being aware of her physical appearance to honing her listening skills.

The best part of this book is Nakamoto’s wit as he helps the reader along. As a former Dale Carnegie instructor, personal development trainer, and international tour director, Nakamoto knows how to tell a story. There’s a rather amusing tale of how he and a friend had sworn off all women as gold-diggers since all of the women they encountered at an upscale nightclub would only go out with them once. A friend of theirs tells them, "The problem isn’t that these women are gold-diggers. It’s that you guys unfortunately can’t afford them." Lesson to be learned from such wise words: don’t try to place the blame for your lousy love life on someone or something else; be proactive, take control of your love life, and good things will follow.

The book follows a rigid but successful format. Each chapter begins with a nifty quote from a major author or artist, past or present. For instance, Chapter 13 titled "Competition," opens with a quote from Margaret Halsey: "The great disadvantage of being in a rat race is that it is humiliating. The competitors in a rat race are by definition rodents." An honest male prospective that summarizes what is to be learned in the chapter follows these quotes. Nakamoto also includes an anecdote from his life such as the email he received from a woman complaining about an aspect of her dating life, followed by a list of steps on how to successfully accomplish whatever the theme of the chapter happens to be.

Nakamoto, is not new to the "how to catch a man arena." His previous book, Men are like Fish: Everything a Woman Needs to Know about Catching a Man, was a funny, intelligent look at the dating scene with tips on how to not only initiate a great relationship but enhance the one you are in. In his latest book he offers an honest and refreshing male perspective that any woman can use if she finds herself in a dating slump.

Unlike many of the dating books out there, he doesn’t send the message that women should wait for a man to decide what he wants to do about being together but instead he teaches women how to be proactive when it comes to their love life. He tells them to put themselves first -- their needs, wants, and desires. Ladies, you can’t get any better advice than that.

In Dating Rocks you will find no catchy phrases and no antiquated ideals, just good solid advice (that may or may not net you a man), but along the way will provide you with a great deal of fun, insight and personal growth.

5 out of 5 starsThe Ultimate Dating Reference Book for the Empowered Woman , 2008-07-30
Hello Steve,

I have just finished reading 'Dating Rocks!' and I want to thank you for the best insight I have ever received to enable me to become empowered in dating and for ultimately finding and creating the best chance for a lifelong love relationship.

I just celebrated my 45th Birthday yesterday and coincidentally I also received my awesome book in the mail yesterday...although I wish I had this powerful insight many years ago I feel encouraged because I believe that it's never too late to live, learn and love...especially now with my newfound knowledge.

The way you have laid out the guidelines~timelines have put it in the simplest, sincerest, and most intentional terms I have ever seen. Thank you so much!! In your book I have identified several areas that I need to work on to turn some of my weak areas into strengths and then I believe I will be ready to 'Rock!' Probably the hardest part about reading your book was that as I was approaching the end of it I only wished it could go on and on...this book will surely become a staple in my personal library as one of my 'reference books', as I plan to pull it out to refresh my memory and dating skills until I am finally blessed to meet 'the one'.

Could you please send me your 'Bonus Special Report' mentioned at the back of your book. And thank you again and God bless you in all your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Nina
ps~ I would also highly recommend this as a 'must read' for any parents of young women as it is a great source of information to share with any young woman you would like to see empowered from the very beginning of her dating life.

4 out of 5 starsEnlightening information helped me understand , 2008-04-21
Having just been through the experience of not being called back after giving my phone number, Steve's book enlightened me that it probably wasn't me. Just back on the dating circuit, I feel like the guy I want to find is a needle in a haystack. Steve's book gives some ideas on how to isolate the search and make early, logical decisions about the potential success of a possible relationship.

I also enjoyed Steve's candidness with his trials and triumphs - I could relate to his experiences.

2 out of 5 starsDon't judge a book by it's cover, 2008-01-02
I was disappointed with this book. I wanted tips (after a long term relationship break-up) to get back into dating. I wasn't looking for a book on self esteem. Tips such as: stop living to please others, practice compassion, learn to laugh at yourself (I did that one a long time ago) are good self improvement tips, but if I wanted that kind of advice, I would read (again) Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People--a classic that hasn't been surpassed IMO. I wanted dating tips.

5 out of 5 starsCompletely changed my outlook towards dating, 2007-12-30
As a thirty year old woman fresh out of a long-term relationship, I was having trouble motivating myself to get back out into the dating scene. I'm so glad that this book was recommended to me by a friend! It not only gave me some insight into what went wrong in my last (and prior) relationships, allowing me to learn from my mistakes and move on, but it further changed my jaded attitude towards dating to one of fantastic optimism! My new attitude has made me much more outgoing and open towards strangers and I have been less worried about impressing men and more focused on filling my time with things that are fun to me. I highly recommend this book to any woman looking to get more out of her current relationship or searching for the right man, as well as to anyone trying to make sense out of a disastrous failed relationship so she can learn from it and move on.

"Dating Rocks" is a sensible, insightful view into the mind of a man and what he wants out of a relationship. It is appropriate for any female wanting a mature, adult relationship with a man and gives her specific and detailed guidance on how to achieve it. Nakamoto writes in easy to understand language, using the same format for each chapter that makes the information easily accessible. The chapters are broken down into simple steps, making the information manageable. He provides the reader with challenges for each step and thoughtful advice about looks, charm, honesty, loyalty and love.

"Dating Rocks" covers all areas of dating, beginning with presenting yourself to men as an attractive, available woman who is well put together, mature and highly desirable. Nakamoto shows ways to make yourself a better person in order to be a contributing part of a two sided relationship. He moves into what a healthy happy relationship should and should not be, tackling the chemistry a couple feels in a sensitive way. Then he shows the importance of maintaining that relationship so you can continue in a partnership that will bring you happiness for a lifetime.

I could have used this book when I was dating my husband. It would have made my dating experience go a lot smoother. I would recommend this book to any single woman that is frustrated with the dating experience or one that needs some ideas on how to keep her current romance alive. A must read for those inexperienced at dating, whether being young or newly single. Nakamoto's self-improvement tips are right on the mark, even for married women.
