Editorial Reviews
Product Description
The Pawnshop Chronicles: Street Wisdom for the Business World is a unique business book. Authored by a Jack E Rossin, The Pawnshop Chronicles is filled with quirky stories from his days working in a pawnshop combined with solid, forceful business lessons that apply to almost every industry. It uses anecdotes from a rarely seen business to draw important lessons about customer service, messaging, planning, the real value of competition, and more.

The Pawnshop Chronicles does what very few business books have been able to do. It reduces the basic concepts of business and marketing down to the fundamentals, then illustrates those concepts with highly entertaining stories from - of all places - a pawnshop.

5 out of 5 starsMARKETING GOLD SIMPLIFIED, 2006-03-14
My marketing experience started at 5 yrs. of age when i went out and sold the free samples that my father distributed as a fuller brush salesman. lemonade stands, paper routes and grass cutting. my college degree is marketing majored, which landed me job experience at hallmark cards, dexter shoe, bradlees dept. stores etc. I've never had my craft tutored in such a simplistic, understandable and useful guide to what i do. it reinforced what iv'e learned, refined some of my techniques and taught me some new stratigies. it did'nt hurt that the read was hilarious as well. if you are selling anything.... you'll sell it better after reading this book.

mr. rossin i owe you more than i paid for this book!

5 out of 5 starsCharming and Insightful, 2004-06-14
This book is so much more than business advice. It's about heart. It's about struggle. And it's about the lessons we learn through life, not through the classroom. It is a charming look at a bygone but very relevant era. A great gift!

It took me about 4 hours to read the book from beginning to end. The book was easy reading and the content was equal to that of a Marketing companies sales pitch. If you are already familiar with industry wide Marketing practices and Customer Service you will find this book repetitive and lacking insight. The worst part about the book would have to be the words "Just another day in the pawnshop" used over and over and over and over! I would not recommend this book if you are already intuitive, insightful and embrace change. However, I would recommend this book if you are trying to motivate one of your employees to understand customer expectations.

5 out of 5 starsBusiness NOT as usual, 2003-12-03
Rossin's book is filled with incredibly amusing anecdotes and sage business advice. These are tough economic times and Rossin brings a smile to your face and loads of unique ideas as to how to address business issues. Buy one for yourself and another as a gift.
