A great deployment book for any service., 2008-03-18 My husband will soon leave for Kuwait, leaving behind our 4 yo daughter and me. I've been researching various deployment books since we learned he was going.
Overall, this is one of the best books. It is service neutral (which is difficult to find). The story is about love and separation more than the actual reason they are gone. The illustrations are lovely and typical of quality children's books as opposed to deployment books that look like they were drawn by children.
While our daughter becomes sad when her dad reads it to her, I feel as if it will help a lot when he leaves.

Beautiful!, 2008-03-10 I would recommend this book anytime to anyone. It was a beautiful book with beautiful illustrations. This is a must have for any family who has a military family member with young children. My 3 year old son loved the stars and the world illustrations and after we finished, he said he would throw a star to daddy.

good book, 2008-02-14 This book is ok but I bought it for my toddler so its still a little long for her attention span right now. I wish they also had one with a girl instead of a boy as the main character. But still a good read

Very sweet idea, 2008-02-13 I love the idea of the father and son playing catch with the North star while Dad is away at war. It helps explain the distance apart as well as shows the child that Dad still loves and thinks of his son. I do think this story will have the most impact on 4-year-olds and up, though. The text is a little over the head of my 2.5-year-old, and therefore doesn't do much to enlighten her as to what it MEANS to have Daddy deploy. But she likes to look at the stars anyway. :-)

Grat Book, 2008-02-07 My daughter and I love reading this book while daddy is away! It is so great! Especially since we always are blowing kissed to daddy every night before bed!
