Product Description
The Hokey Pokey IS What It's All About is the compelling story of two women who overcome both common and extraordinary life challenges. At 26, Jenny is an ambitious public relations professional chasing the American dream, but she finds herself increasingly stressed out and disillusioned by the long hours and a demanding boss. Adele is a successful relationship counselor who, at 58, contracts a rare blood disease that's often fatal. Moreover, she is losing her beloved husband to Alzheimer's disease. The older woman completely changes the way she views the illness and loss that confront her by adopting a hokey pokey attitude about life. Adele realizes that even life-threatening problems aren't as bad as they seem, and every challenge provides a special opportunity to change perceptions and convert heartache, stress, and even death into lessons in forgiveness and love. Seeing her younger counterpart in distress over trying to achieve, achieve, achieve, Adele teaches Jenny her hokey pokey wisdom during regular meetings in a story reminiscent of Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom and Return to Love by Marianne Williamson. The two women's stories are intertwined to give readers a glimpse of their lives as they discover a more lighthearted way to approach the inevitable trials and demands life holds for each of us and those we love.

5 out of 5 starsInspiring, 2008-07-15
This book totally changed my view on my day job! I was considering quitting my job because I didn't like the people that I worked with at all. After reading this book my whole perspective on how to behave at work, and how to treat co-workers totally changed. I am still at the same job and I am much happier without having changed anything but my attitude. The book saved me from a potential downward spiral of job after job, in search for the "perfect job."

5 out of 5 starsLove This Book!, 2007-09-08
As one who has spent a lifetime focusing on what is NOT necessarily important, I was inspired by this wonderfully written book, which gave me guidance with nearly every turn of the page. It's a book you can go back to and read again and again. Highly Recommended!

4 out of 5 starsLoved it!, 2007-08-26
I so enjoyed "The Hokey Pokey IS What It's All About". I carried it in my car and took it with me whenever I knew I'd be waiting somewhere. Full of life lessons which, for some reason, I need to learn over and over again. Reminded me of what is really important. Reminded me to "zoom out" when I get mired in whatever. Great stuff. I think I'll get to the end and start it all over again and again and again.

5 out of 5 starsEmpower your life to truly live, 2007-08-24
When taken to heart, the philosophies presented in this book will lift your spirits and empower your life. Written from a point-of-view many of us can relate to, "The Hokey Pokey," reminds us to step back, relax, and let go of our trivial day-to-day worries. This book has given me new tools to use on my journey through life, and shown me that by changing my perspective I can truly live. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 starsCaptures the pain and glory of personal challenges, 2007-08-05
This amazingly honest book captures the pain and glory of struggling with personal challenges, enabling the reader to have numerous "ah hah" experiences along the way. As the authors share their personal stories and epiphanies, I was able to step back and take a look at my own drama with fresh eyes and a more positive attitude. As a health writer, I highly recommend "The Hokey Pokey" for everyone who needs inspiration in overcoming their own illness or dealing with the illness of a loved one, and to those who want to change the direction of their life. This is a book you'll definitely want to keep on your night table.
