 HAVE TO HAVE IT! PERFECT for DEPLOYMENTS!, 2008-08-13
This is a "have to have" for any child with a parent or loved one being deployed! It is great for children of all ages too. After reading this both of my children sat down to make a "paper hug" to send off with daddy. A+++++++++

 Good Book, 2008-07-25
My 4 yr. old grandson really liked this book and wants to make a paper hug to send with his daddy to Iraq. He talks all the time about how he's going to give daddy a "real" hug when he comes home. So he definitely understood the concepts of this book.

Great book for Parents that will gone a long time!, 2008-07-21
I love this book. I read it to my daughter and then make the hand to send to her daddy. The only problem is that my husband does a bunch of Short TDY's gone for only 60 days at a time so it didn't really fit for us. I'm still looking for a book that will cover our TDY's.

 Great idea...poor choice of words!, 2008-04-27
This book is wonderful in that it provides a suggestion for a (therapeutic) hands-on activity for children facing the deployment of a parent in the military. It seems most appropriate for children between 4 and 9. There's room for improvement, though! The author uses words like "war." We talk about Daddy going to sea, being deployed, helping or protecting people in other countries, serving our country. We don't say, "Daddy's at war." We don't talk about danger, fighting, killing and other topics that seem to be developmentally and emotionally inappropriate for the ages the book is geared toward. Yes, we sanatize things for them. It's our job as parents to protect them from unnecessary worry while helping them discuss and deal with sadness, fear and other emotions that are natural when separating from a parent for a long period of time. If, God forbid, "Daddy" was injured or worse, we would address that then. Why worry children needlessly with topics they will hopefully never need to deal with? My solution: I used white-out and wrote "sea" over the word "war" in the sentence that says, "Daddy is going to war." I whited-out a few other things, too. As I said, the idea is awesome and good books for children going through this challenge are much needed, especially now that our country is at WAR.

GREAT BOOK!, 2008-03-27
I read this book at the house of another Military family. My five year old daughter fell in love with it so i got it for her. She reads this book daily! I feel it's a must buy for any small child with a deployed or deploying parent!
