5 out of 5 starsUser-friendly, reader will get more confident with this book, 2008-06-30
That's right! Dr. Label explains basic accounting in a such concise, simple way that YOU will get the confidence you need. Starting with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ending with Generally Auditing Standards (GAAS), we follow the adventures of entreprenaur Sam and Solana Beach Bicycle Corporation. Important terms are in boldface type. Each chapter ends with a vocabulary review. With each definition, Dr. LAbel tells us how and why the term is used. Mathematical forumalas are demonstrated for the visual learner. Also, Dr. Label builds on the information he gives us. Nothing is ever "lost in space" after Dr. Label mentions it. For example, the Balance Sheet isn't just in one chapter, it's shown again and again, where relevant, throughout the book.

The appendix is financial statements of Station Casinos, Inc. Followed by an index.

I bought this book because, as a non-accountant, I wanted to learn about it for work and I found it very helpful. The author made ideas very easy to understand. I liked the examples and especially liked the glossaries at the end of each chapter. So, this is just a friendly thank you to Dr. L for writing such a book for non-accountants like me.

For an engineer trying to do volunteer bookeeping and accounting, this book is a good overview. It presents bookeeping and accounting in a step by step, understandable manner.

5 out of 5 starsPractical, Relevant, and To The Point, 2007-09-11
This book is not a completely from-scratch lesson in accounting; but for anyone with at least some minimal exposure to accounting concepts, it is a very practical and organized way to get through the fundamentals as a tool for business, MBA prep, or general knowledge. The concepts are written in a way that is accessible and relevant to everyday life at the office. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick yet thorough way to get with the program!
