Product Description
Sister Souljah, the hip-hop generation's number one author and most compelling storyteller, delivers a powerful story about love and loyalty, strength and family. In her bestselling novel, The Coldest Winter Ever, Sister Souljah introduced the world to Midnight, a brave but humble lieutenant to a prominent underworld businessman. Now, in a highly anticipated follow-up to her million-selling masterpiece, she brings readers into the life and dangerously close to the heart of this silent, fearless young man.

Raised in a wealthy, influential, Islamic African family, Midnight enjoys a life of comfort, confidence, and protection. Midnight's father provides him with a veil of privilege and deep, devoted love, but he never hides the truth about the fierce challenges of the world outside of his estate. So when Midnight's father's empire is attacked, he sends Midnight with his mother to the United States.

In the streets of Brooklyn, a young Midnight uses his Islamic mind-set and African intelligence to protect the ones he loves, build a business, reclaim his wealth and status, and remain true to his beliefs.

Midnight, a handsome and passionate young man, attracts many women. How he interacts and deals with them is a unique adventure. This is a highly sensual and tremendous love story about what a man is willing to risk and give to the women he loves most. Midnight will remain in your mind and beat in your heart for a lifetime.

Her "raw and true voice" (Publishers Weekly) will both soothe and arouse you. In a beautifully written and masterfully woven story, Sister Souljah has given us Midnight, and solidified her presence as the mother of all contemporary urban literature.

3 out of 5 starsAppreciate the book for what is, instead of what it is not, 2009-01-08
I found this story to be very intriguing but boring at times. I love that it was not your typical hood story. Sister Souljah did a wonderful job with the detail, reseach, and diversity she had in this book. No, it is not the sequel to the Coldest Winter Ever, so what and get over it!. I was disappointed too, but if you think about it, can a sequel really be created that will give true justice to such a classic? How many authors have failed miserably and drawn out series and ruined the original story, and we have been crazy enough to buy the books and complain about it later? I do hope that this book have a sequel because there are some questions that were unanswered. Sister Souljah is still that deal and still in my Top 10!

2 out of 5 starsVery disappointing and unbelievable, 2009-01-08
We rushed to buy this book based on Souljah's "Coldest Winter..." book. However, what a disappointment. This seems like the kind of book somebody writes because they have a publishing deadline. While there are certainly good moments, the story seems contrived and unbelievable. There are also lots of missing gaps in the story (where is his father? why are they in the U.S.? Why are they so isolated from the African Moslem community for so many years (until the wedding) in, of ALL places, New York? If you are into popular fiction, you'll like this book. If you want literature / art -- this ain't it! Not only does Souljah demonstrate no actual knowledge or significant research into the people of the Sudan, the scathing commentary on African Americans is ridiculous. Forgettable, at best!

2 out of 5 starsThe Sister really let me down!, 2009-01-08
What can I say to express my profound disappointment in this book? I really expected more from Soulja. I really thought that she would have given us something close to or beyond the quality of The Coldest Winter Ever, but she has really not lived up to that expectation. And the biggest blow of all is that it ended like there will be a sequel. How wants a sequel to something that was already too long and tremendously boring? Was her publisher pressuring her to release a book (I mean after all it had been 10 long years)? I think she lost something in those 10 years. I feel like I was cheated out of my money!!!!

4 out of 5 starsHis Story, 2009-01-08
No, this is not the sequel to The Coldest Winter Ever, the title says that. This is Midnights life story and it will be continued based on how it ended. It was a good read, but I hate she didn't just give a ending. It is long, but was good.

5 out of 5 starsMidnight, 2009-01-07
I have really enjoyed reading this book, Sister Souljah paints a very clear picture of a young male struggling with his religious beliefes in a society that has no moral character. This book also points out the importance of the family foundation and how a child learns from what he sees, his mother is a very strong role model that is not accepting anything less than perfect, and he wants to make her proud, in comparison to the other children in the book that seem to be living by the rules of the street. I think every teenage girl and boy needs to read this book to understand the importance of self control and self respect.
