 Want a 30+ ?? Use this., 2008-11-22
I took the ACT after being forced into it by my mom. I wanted to go all out for my SAT test, but my mom insisted that the ACT was preferable in the East Coast colleges. So I took without much studying. I did a few practice tests in this Kaplan ACT book. To my huge surprise, I got a 33 on the real test. English: 35, Reading: 36, Math: 33, and Science: 28. My science score was not that great, but when I take it again next year (after studying seriously) I plan to practice Science especially and try to get a 32 on it.

 Decent strategies in book, poor online component/cust service, 2008-10-19
I purchased this book for my son, who is preparing for the ACT. As a former high school teacher and university professor who is very familiar with teaching kids study strategies and with what universities want to see from prospective students, I am impressed with the strategies offered. They are real, and if you take time to learn them, they will work.
Beware, though. The print on the back of the book and the initial chapters suggest that buying the book enables you to use a one-time code on Kaplan's website that enables access to online diagnostic tests and other supplementary material. When my son tried following the instructions using the given code (and then I tried myself to make sure he hadn't done it incorrectly), I called the customer service number that displayed on the website with the "error message" after each failed attempt. The lady who took my call told me that I would have to send an E-mail to Kaplan to explain my problem. I was confused as to why the website had directed me to call, and when I tried to find out if there was someone else I could talk to who would be able to give us a new code, I was told that was all that could be done and hung up on. I'll let that speak for itself.
But alas, the online material was not worth the time or effort we had spent to get to it. After finally getting a new code, it turns out that the "supplemental material" was merely .pdf files of various chapters in the book, and the diagnostic test, while giving one practice with the types of questions that are on the test, is virtually useless, as it does not enable the student to match questions they have trouble with to various types of questions identified by Kaplan, chapters or sections in the book, or specific strategies.
I recommend the book, but don't waste your time with the online component. It's not worth it, and you won't have to deal with their rudeness and lack of organization trying to get into it.

Very Good Preparation, 2008-10-05
This book is very helpful because it gives a nice review of all the sections of the ACT. The most valuable portion of the prep book however are the included tests. They are pretty close to the actual test and give alot of good feedback on what you got wrong when you check the answers. There is also an online resource for the book that gives you free access to the Kaplan ACT Quizbank to make sure you keep up with studying.

The best ACT review book PERIOD (dont just believe me, believe the guarantee) , 2008-07-18
When i used this book in conjunction with The Real ACT Prep Guide: The Only Official Prep Guide From The Makers Of The ACT (Real Act Prep Guide) i got a composite score of 28 on the ACT (93 percentile)
this is the best Act prep book. Not only is the review VERY thorough, the practice test is very similar to the real ACT(don't believe me? compare it to The Real ACT Prep Guide: The Only Official Prep Guide From The Makers Of The ACT (Real Act Prep Guide) )
if through some freak accident you dont improve your score, just send the book along with proof back to Kaplan and they will refund the price you paid for this book.
