 So-so manual, horrible novel., 2008-06-27
The author of the excellent survivalblog site should really stick to non-fiction. He's got a lot of useful tips and info to offer the world (which he generously gives away for free on the web), but I've seen teeth-jarring "Mary Sue" fanfic that shows more talent for storytelling than this "novel" does.
I suspect a lot of reviewers are so blinded by the culture clash between the prepared and the ostrich set that they're inclined to give this book far more credit than it's due. But I'll say it here...just because you agree with a writer's political views (as I mostly do) doesn't mean you have to say he's a great novelist.

 I couldn't put it down! , 2008-06-09
A very good read, especially for those of a survival type mind set, though that is not necessary to enjoy this book. I couldn't put it down...which meant a sleepless night! Some passages are a little disturbing, as they delve into a darker side of human nature, but that is necessary in a book of this nature. It is very detailed, and though fiction, gives good ideas/advice for those of a survival mindset. I will be reading it again soon!

This is a good entertaining book but Rawles pushes religion way too much and his knowledge of firearms is not up to par.

Yummmy Religious Gun Pornography, 2008-05-28
This book is nothing but pornography for religious zealots that enjoy masturbating to Soldier of Fortune magazine while pretending they are not a racist because you have a "Black Friend". I would actually recommend hitting yourself in the head with a hammer before reading this book. It's offensive to anyone that is a Survival Minded gun owner. If any sane person out there reads this book please don't let it be the basis of your opinion for Survival Minded persons.
After reading this book (and boy was it hard) I envision Mr Rowels as the con-man that was selling survival retreats in the 80's movie "Survivors" to the weak minded and/or extremists. Please save your money....I would be happy to give you my copy.

Awesome book for true patriots, 2008-05-22
I enjoyed this book from front to back. An excellent read if you are survival minded, or are just hoping for the day when we can take our country back.
