Editorial Reviews
Product Description
This volume contains a wide range of exercises that emphasize active learning. Each of the 80-plus exercises is described in a cookbook format that allows the instructor to quickly see the concept underlying the activity, materials needed, and class time required. The activities are appropriate for introductory courses at college or high-school level, yet many are also applicable to more advanced classes. Both beginning and more experienced teachers should appreciate the variety of teaching approaches, which include demonstrations, experiments, discussions, and simulations. The activities are grouped by topic and cover critical thinking, research methods and statistics, biopsychology and animal behaviour, sensation and perception, learning, memory, cognition, emotion, development, human diversity, social psychology, personality, and psychological disorders.

3 out of 5 starsNeeds updating, 2008-05-29
APA really needs to update this text as it is close to 10 years old now, and many of the supplies needed for the activities are difficult to obtain.

5 out of 5 starsLoved this book!, 2007-08-06
I use this book in my high school psychology class. Many of the experiments were originally done on college age students, but I find it highly applicable to juniors and seniors as well. I only wish I could use more of the experiments but because of lack of time I do not get to them.

5 out of 5 starsCreative and Fun!, 2007-07-17
This was an excellent resource for my high school Psychology course. This book offers a variety of ideas for all of the major areas studied in an introductory psychology course. There were some great ideas/games that I used as demonstrations at the beginning of class to grab their attention. For example, we played the "hot and cold game" to demonstrate operant conditioning, as well as the "telephone" game to demonstrate aspects of memory. The students enjoyed the ideas this book had to offer, and I had fun doing it with them! The Activities Handbook for the Teaching of Psychology is an absolute NECESSITY for any teacher of psychology.

5 out of 5 starsA lifesaver for first time teachers, 2001-08-07
I recently taught Introductory Psychology for the first time, and this book was a great help in designing my course. For each area of psychology, I chose activities from this book to illustrate key concepts. Every activity that I tried went over well with my students.

5 out of 5 starsA Must For Anyone Who Teaches Intro Psychology, 2000-01-25
Dr. Benjamin has compiled the book every teacher of introductory psychology needs. Full of activities designed to spark interest and understanding of basic psychological concepts. High school students will appreciate the psychology more when they can actively participate. The book will show students psychology as science, not hocus-pocus.
