Surprise ending, 2003-08-07
We are a homeschool family and this book is in our required reading list for 4th grade literature. The kids went into it with the usual complaints of a "required" book. It must be boring. We were so pleasantly suprised. It is a touching, surprising, interesting little gem. The book is in the style of a mystery and for the level of reading; it is quite suspenseful even for my older readers. It is not completely out of print, either. Our curriculum supplier keeps a steady supply in stock. The book also kept the children's interest by focusing on the real fears and questions of the little girl Biddy, and gives a nice sampling of life in another culture.
