Good book but major problems!, 2008-07-08
This is an excellent book with tremendous information. The one problem I have with this book is there are no phonetic pronunciations for the words used in the rituals. In fact, just about every ritual or spell is loaded with all types of words that one cannot pronounce. In fact, you are calling on spirits to aid your spell work without any background information on the spirits used. You are also left to sometimes guess how to pronounce long incantations without any pronunciation guide at all.

I find it surprising that NOT one review of this book mentions the lack of a pronunciation guide. The rituals seem to use incantations from Latin, Greek, Voodoo, and a variety of other languages. To be honest, if I had known this in advance I would have never purchased this book.

Why did I give the book 3 stars?

The author put a lot of work into this book- it will be obvious the moment you start reading. The book is loaded with excellent tips, and it really does give you something to think about. However, if you can not pronounce the spells your in trouble and here lies the problem.

I just wanted other readers to be aware of the high and low point of this book. Now you have the facts, you can decide for yourself.

It is sensible to figure that even whilst engaged in the practice, we are still humans nonetheless, thus not exempt from having and affecting ill-intent towards others. Whether we mean to or not.

Likewise, we can certainly have ill-intent towards ourselves; which complicates matters whilst traveling the Path.

This book helped me to realize the nature of my own problems in this area and address them.

Attacks indicate challenges to be resolved. An external attack often mirrors an internal attack (self against self). Oneself summons the external, tangible, adversary, and often we ask, surprised, "Why am I being picked on!?".

Whether flesh/blood or not, the problem must be dealt with, or it continues keep us locked in a victim/aggressor-mentality loop. Trying an "Ignore it and it'll go away" doesn't work.

Mr. Miller's book helped me stand up to what was essentially an enormously grotesque shadow cast by a tiny, mischievous, double-headed imp.

I enjoy this book it gives good info along with easy to follow details. I would recomend this for beginners. I had bought this book for a young friend of the family to help her with her basic learning.

What a insightful book. It enlighten me to more of the world of magick. Read this book if you really are interested in discovering more about the world of magick.

Heavily influenced by American Hoodoo, 2007-10-19
I give this one an "eh." If you have an affinity for the kitchen-witchery/spell concoctions (which can include things like nails, grave dirt, and a few fairly unpleasant ingredients) which are then applied physically, like being sprayed around the house or buried outside, then this is a book you'll really enjoy. If you are fascinated by Hoodoo, this is definitely a book for you. The author was obviously writing from that perspective, with repeated references to various Hoodoo spells and terminology. It was also heavily laced with his personal fascination with Hekate, and includes a number of rituals incorporating her.

I viewed it as an interesting collection of folk and Hoodoo remedies, with a large amount Hekate-oriented Wicca worked in. Not being particularly interested in Hoodoo and old-school folk magic, I found the book of limited value beyond curiosity.

It provides a nice collection of useful web links at the though, with starting points for research, and shows how someone who really uses these techniques would operate.
