Heart warming, life changing, not scholarly, 2008-11-17 I personally got a lot out of this book. It seems to mirror a lot of what is going on in my life. However, the book as a whole feels very anecdotal. It cites very little, and gives few examples research wise or in testimonial form of real addictions. That being said, at least for me, the book gives good advice. While my educational background gives me an automatic skepticism of the book, when one is in a ditch, who cares?

Good place to start , 2008-11-16
This book is a good place to start if you are just beginning to look at addiction in yourself or others. Its simple, straightforward, and is written in easy to read language. Some of the examples of addictive behavior feel dated or fictional, but you can easily insert your own relevant situation. They are intentionally written for this purpose, as stand ins. Its also small enough, and short enough, that you can reread the book for ongoing guidance.

A Window into the Heart and Mind of Today's Individuals, 2008-10-18 In this day and age of quick fixes and appearance over character, addictions are becoming more and more widespread. The author here describes the process of addiction, including addictive relationships. He then breaks down the addictive process into three stages: internal change, lifestyle change, and life breakdown. Following the addictive process, he shares the motivations for recovery. He closes the book by addressing addiction as it relates to families.
This work will apply to any addiction -- it is not restricted to just one variety. I recommend it for all Christian workers, particularly pastors. It will give a greater glimpse into the emotional struggles of the people all around a pastor, as well as a much-needed window into his own heart and mind.

Must Read If You Struggle With Addiction, 2008-09-05 As someone who struggles with Alcohol addiction I gained valuable insights from this book. As it should, the book addresses addiction in the context of a whole personality/pattern of addiction, not simply addiction to one particular substance such as alcohol. A must read if you struggle with addiction.
