4 out of 5 starsThe Real McCoy, not a summary., 2006-10-17
The definitive tome of a game played, coached, and officiated by gods
and mere mortals alike.

Editor Larry Upson, the NFL's Director of Officiating Operations,
presents Rules 1 through 18 verbatim, in cold, desolate prose
reminiscent of frozen tundra. Highlights include:

- The 10-second Run Off. 4-3-6b and 4-3-10, pages 43 and 51
- In The Grasp. 12-2-12-(6), page 156
- Reviewable Plays. 15-9, page 200

This 2007 Edition contains the 2006 Playing Rules, along with a Penalty
Summary and the Official Signals. Sadly, the Index found in previous
editions is no longer included.

Combining contemporary grammar and vocabulary with remnants used
when the League was founded in 1922, the complexity and ambiguity
of the NFL Rules Book makes it one of the most difficult codes to
digest, second only to Official Baseball Rules (OBR).

Deduct one star, as the Owners and the NFL's Competition Committee
have yet to repeal the Tuck Rule. (3-21-2, Notes 2 and 3, page 27)
