Product Description A rare glimpse into the fascinating, sometimes terrifying, sometimes hilarious world of a modern ceremonial magician. Hailed by critics as the most entertaining author and one of the most widely respected members of the magick community, Lon Milo DuQuette provides a beacon for aspiring magicians everywhere.
Amazon.com Review The first time I met Monsieur DuQuette, at a booksellers' convention in Los Angeles, he read my fortune with tarot cards. I was about to move, he predicted. Irritated, I huffed "that was ridiculous," I'd just moved into my boyfriend's house. When I arrived home from the convention, my aforementioned boyfriend told me he'd had a change of heart and would I please move out as soon as possible! The next time I sat down with DuQuette, at the same conference (several years later in Chicago), he regaled me with witticisms and stories. I was struck by his sincerity, self-revelation, and personable nature. This is the first time a true magician has written an autobiography since The Confessions of Aleister Crowley, and it's the next best thing to being able to sit with the charming and adept DuQuette. It's intimate, straightforward, and neither self-deprecating or egotistical. It contains excruciatingly honest revelations by a contemporary individual attempting to understand the universe and how it works. Here's a man who comfortably accepts himself and urges the reader to do the same. If you are not interested in magick, think of this as a fascinating autobiography. If you are, it's required reading. --P. Randall Cohan

A real magician for our times, 2008-11-22 What is a real magician like? What are his likes and dislikes? Does he have a family, Friends? What are his adventures? Does he face down the beings of the shadow? In this autobiographical account Lon Milo Duquette, gives us a delightful glance into the real world of a Modern Day Ritual Magician. Once, you start reading it, you can't put it down. His humorous, anedotal style will entrance you! And all his adventures have the solid ring of credibility! This is a totally unique account. Compared to the competition, who are merely "legends in their own minds" (!) Duquette stands heads and shoulders above the pack. I most highly recomend his books --Paul A. Clark author of the Broken Seal and Steward of the Fraternity of the Hidden Light

One of the most enjoyable books I ever read, 2008-11-20 I heard Lon Milo DuQuette on Coast to Coast and decided to buy his book, since he gave such a great interview. This is one of the few books that I ever read from cover to cover without stopping. Actually, the other book was the DaVinci Code. I went out and purchased his other books also, like "Enochian Vision Magic," and they are all wonderful. This man has a talent for writing. As I was reading "Life with the Spirits" I found myself laughing out loud. His books are not only entertaining, but have substance. If you are interested in any aspect of magic or the occult, this book is for you. It gives a unique perspective from an experienced magician. You will not only come away entertained, but with a wealth of knowledge. I will eventually buy every book he has written.

Somewhat Interesting, 2008-10-09 I have heard DuQuette interviewed and he seems like an interesting guy, and this book is somewhat interesting in that it narrates the events in his life that involve his magical pursuits. Some of the adventures are not very convincing---in fact some of them are pretty lame, to be honest------ and there is more story telling than actual analysis or esoteric information. It is a pleasant read but it probably will be of most interest to people who are already into this author's works and want to hear a little about his background.

An Interesting Read..., 2008-05-05 Like some others who have posted a review, it was the title that drew me to this book. Never heard of the author before, but he had a `deep in thought' stare on the cover with mysterious writings... Who could resist possible diabolical behavior with secret magical workings? What turns out, it's mostly about a typical hippie from the 70's (haha, just a fun jab) and his struggles to survive various stages in his life of faith/magick. Contempt for God is evident, but after reading the chapters of his early life in Nebraska, you can see clearly how this developed. From birth, to a brief music career, to a hard life direction all the way to Crowley and beyond, you get a clear picture of how his choices on things come forward. There are a few magick moments in the book, but like many stories of practiced magick, it could go wither way, it ~could~ have been real, or it could have just as easily been chance or imagination or strong desire. But that is up to the reader on that. There are fun moments throughout, very well written! One of my favorite parts is the `mentally mooning' of bragging psychics and/or mystics. I love that, too funny. Expect fun moments like that. To me in the end it was a brief book of reflection on self discovery for posterity. No stale braggadocio here, or impossibly naïve claims of power like so many others. The author lays out his achievements and faults to bring together quite an interesting progressive story. I've read it several times. I have no patience or continued focus on boring things. A testament to the writer for an excellent read. Because of this book I've looked into other books by this author.

This should belong in every classical magician's library, 2008-04-08 I feel this is Mr. DuQuette's best work. It describes his early struggles and how he came to be a magician. I feel his advice could help any aspiring magician, especially his practical approach to evocation.
