The fourth edition of Jack Chapman’s salary negotiation classic includes updated Internet research sources with passwords to useful sites; new lingo for earnings conversations; thorough coverage of stock options and grants; and the final word on when to get a lawyer involved. 5 out of 5 starsI have read 4-5 books on this topic -- this is by far the best., 2008-07-10
I have read 4-5 books on this topic -- this is by far the best. The others are too lengthy, more for academia or career-services professionals. But this one carries the nuts & bolts, along with the clear step-by-step methods & best advice that the other books gloss over or ignore.

With this book, I have coached several colleagues & myself -- one of them got a salary offer $10,000 ABOVE what the company was initially offering. Another negotiated a sign-on bonus that was originally non-existent. When I first read it (in '99), I gave my closest friends copies of it for Christmas! How's that for an endorsement?

5 out of 5 starsBest Book on Compensation Negotiations, 2008-06-05
I attended a seminar by the author back in 1997. The book was included in the price of the seminar. I gave it a try it made my negotiations many times. Every time I've used this book I increased my base at least by 20%, plus bonus increase and variety of perks. I agree with one "negative" reviewer that this book can be reduced to, in my view, 3 pages. However to each these three pages will be "his/her own". It worked for me so well that I recommend it to all my friends along with Richard Betty's 5 Minute Interview. these two books is all a person need to increase chances of getting a job and compensation to a max.

5 out of 5 starsThe Best Salary Closing Question!, 2008-05-29
My hat goes off to Jack Chapman because he has enabled countless people to earn more money for just a few seconds of doing what he advises. Jack has done a masterful job of telling all job seekers, or even those who are discussing their current salary with an existing employer, how to easily increase their income in a way that is subtle, yet quite effective. A must read for anyone who is negotiating pricing or salary!

5 out of 5 stars$10 are you kidding - This book is worth its weight in GOLD!, 2008-05-27
I have owned this book for quite some time and it is always at the top of my most recommended list.

I once used the techniques in this book to convince an employer to change their base offer from 45K to 90K + Bonus. I took the job!

GREAT BOOK!

2 out of 5 starsNot recommended for top employers, 2008-04-20
Before you eagerly take the advice of this "full proof" method to make $1000 a minute, take the advice with a few grains of salt. The most competitive positions at the top companies (ie. Finance) will not be happy when you employ the tactic of trying to fudge your salary, especially if you do not have experience in the industry. Most likely, the competition for these positions is so fierce that anyone demanding over their typically preset ceiling will be shown the door and another eager and qualified candidate who is more forthright about salary to be offered the position. Be careful of completely losing your chances when you keep your salary range from the employer. What the author doesn't tell you is the risk of the person across the desk showing you the door when they sense that you are not in their price range. Speaking from experience and having read the book, this is a real possibility. This book can cost you a lot more than $1000, out of your own potential income.
