2 out of 5 starsIncomplete Overview of a Complex Topic, 2004-01-27
Mr. Brady's book is a laudable approach to a subject that has been rarely documented. For a new public sector property manager it provides an overview of lifecycle activities, but little explanation or depth of discussion on any topic. For example, physical inventories are covered in a little over 4 pages and reporting and performance measurements are glossed over.
The National Property Management Association (NPMA) published a book in 1999 called The Standard Property Book that provides much more information about the life cycle of property management. It is not limited to the public sector, but genericly is appropriate for anyone who manages personal property. Unfortunately, it is not available to the general public but can be acquired through www.NPMA.org. As the editor of the book, I admit to some bias but I suggest that anyone who would like additional information on the subject to check it out.

5 out of 5 starsA must for government managers!, 2001-06-11
Brady does a great job in simplifying the concept of asset management, so that even new or aspiring public administrators can comprehend this subject. All government agencies need to have some system for managing their assets, whether they are cars, computers, or cranes. Understanding and managing such systems can be a time-consuming challenge, and this text offers many sound concepts for ensuring a successful asset program. Public managers and in finance, assets, procurement, inventory, and fleet will all find this book a valuable resource.
