Product Description
I wrote this book for the average person who has a job, makes a living and still can’t seem to get ahead. I wrote it for the person who dreams of being rich but can’t quite seem to turn his dreams into reality. I wrote this book for the person who is ready to turn his life around and finally have financial freedom. I wrote this book for the person who is covered in debt and can’t seem to stop living paycheck to paycheck. I wrote this for the person who spends more than they make and can’t figure out how to stop doing it.
--Larry Winget

If this describes you, you are not alone. Over 40% of families are feeling the pressure, spending more than they earn, and risking retiring financially dependent on the government, family, or charity. Larry Winget knows—he’s been where you are now. He grew up poor, then made and lost a fortune when a business in which he’d invested went bankrupt. But he worked his way back from rock-bottom to become a multi- millionaire.

Now he gets paid to help people in financial crisis on A&E’s reality series, Big Spender. On the show, he coaches people who have jobs, maybe even high-paying jobs, but are nevertheless in debt or living hand-to-mouth. His blunt take on their situations? They’re broke because they want to be. They all say they want stability, savings, and financial freedom, but their actions too often contradict their words. Larry helps them to see the contradiction, get back on track, and out of debt, step-by-step. He can help you, too.

Whether your aim is to get out of debt, save for a house, or simply stop kidding yourself when it comes to savings (for retirement, for your kids’ college, whatever your goal) this book encourages you, through easy-to-complete worksheets and Larry’s bullying yet wise counsel, to make it happen. Larry’s motivating message: If you want to be rich, you can. But first, you have to stop being broke, and start getting ahead. And he’ll walk you through not only the necessary attitude adjustment, but the practical choices and actions that will get you there.

5 out of 5 starsNo no-nonsense advice, 2008-07-22
No no-nonsense, hard-core common sense advice. You may not want to hear it, but Larry never sugar coats anything and always tells it like it is.

I read EVERY DAY ... books on personal development, making money, and relationships. Rarely have I picked up a book that was so engaging from the beginning. The language is sometimes harsh, but always truthful and Larry hits the bulls-eye with the most practical approach to helping the the average family face the real issues and shows a way to really get out of a bad situation and plan for the future.

I recommend that EVERY FAMILY in America read this book. It could revolutionize the debt problem our country faces.

You're Broke Because You Want to Be: How to Stop Getting By and Start Getting Ahead

I felt so absorbed I read it from cover to cover as soon as I got home from the book store!

It's just what I needed to get motivated and to get started on taking responsibility for my finances. I am not broke but I am also not making what I should be making nor am I wise at managing my money. This book is terrific because it gives step by step instructions on how to get on the right path to making more money for yourself. This plan will save me from falling into the proverbial hole of never ending debt.

I love Larry's non-cutesy language...it's like having a football coach telling you in plain language how to get moving and run that ball and get that touchdown. He teaches you how to focus and what to focus on.

I am so excited for the first time in a long time about my finances.. I know this will work because it makes sense and I am willig to do what it takes to make my dreams come true.

Dealing with my finances was always at the bottom of my list, it seemed like such a chore to me, no fun, but Larry's own life speaks volumns and proved to me that any regular joe or sally can accomplish what he has accomplished if they just put their heart and soul into it and just do it. Actions always speak louder than words. I am Ready for the challenge are You??

It is my own fault, I'm broke. Good solid advice, but his tough love and some of his stereotyping of individuals is a bit hard to swallow sometimes.

Wow. Are you kidding me? Larry Winget is either psychic... which I don't believe in psychic phenomena... or he's just met and worked with more folks with MY (probably your) kind of problem than any other guy in the field.

I was mad, I was hurt, I was angry, I cried... And then I got to page two. Seriously, if you need a wake up call and the TOOLS and, just as importantly, the MOTIVATION to wake up and stop screwing up your financial future... and that of your kids... buy this book YESTERDAY. That's more than a suggestion; it's a commandment. get the book. Holy cr@p!
