From the supplier: The earned income tax credit (EITC) program has expanded greatly since first introduced in 1975, and revisions to EITC laws made in 1993 have increased phase-in rates, increased maximum tax credits available and have expanded eligibility. The tax credit is designed to provide an incentive to work for people on public assistance and particularly people living with children. The EITC is the only benefit delivered to low-income individuals through the tax system. The EITC program has achieved much higher participation rates than other programs because it is a part of income tax filing.
