 It's okay. It's not for novels. It's for word count., 2008-12-01
The big disclaimer for this book is that you should really check out the website first. Nanowrimo is designed to get people writing, rather than producing the next great American novel in one sitting. Obviously, a novel is a labor of love and hate. Nanowrimo creations are word-count grudge matches. Once you know that, you'll be better prepared for what you get when you buy this book.
It's cute. It's funny. It's typical Chris Baty writing stlye, which makes you laugh and nod in agreement at the follies of undertaking a Nano creation in November. It's not about perfection... it's about word- counts and enjoying the ability to write without the pressure of being perfect right away.
Don't say we didn't warn you: this book isn't about how to be the next great Keats... it's about how to finally get something on paper, feel a little better about the writing process, and stimulate the creative side of your life with nifty tips from Chris.
Geesh, all you 1- star, 2- star nay- sayers should really lighten up a little.
On the other hand, I do have bad eyes, and this book needs some new font and color work.

Chris Baty, the founder of National Novel Writer's Month (NaNoWriMo), tells how to write a novel in a month. This book is a good companion on your noveling journey; it is a quick read, had handy references like a chart of daily word goals, and it's full of humor to keep your spirits light. Avoid common pitfalls, like throwing your novel away during week two, and learn how to find time to write even if your schedule is already full. It contains information that is not on the NaNoWriMo website, not to mention lots of pep talks and Chris's can-do attitude. If you're thinking about jumping in to the crazy adventure of noveling-in-a-month, you'll want this little gem by your side.

Highly recommend this book, 2008-11-03
This is my first year doing the NaNoWriMo project. I purchased Baty's book a couple of years ago, but each time November rolled around I seemed to be too tied up to stop and try out the novel writing project. So why am I doing it this month? No real reasons or expectations. Just wanting to do something a little different for a change in the area of creativity.
So far Chris's book is helping me to push forward though it's hard to see how I'm going to pull off 50,000 words when I simply don't know how my plot will unfold. But just when I thought I was stuck during last night's writing, I cranked out an additional 700+ words before heading off to bed. The key is to not rush the story. Let the characters reveal themselves and speak to one another. As Chris points out, keep your expectations low.
Chris writes his advice from pure experience as the founder of NaNoWriMo . So this book doesn't have fake suggestions just to fill up the pages of the book. So far I'm finding this this his suggestions are well founded and very useful for beginning novel writers like myself.
If nothing else, this project will give you a greater respect for what writers do.

A WriMo's Guide to Ultimate Success, 2008-10-23
I stole my husband's The No Plot? No Problem! Novel-Writing Kit last year and had the time of my life from November 1 - November 30 creating a novel from cover to cover. It was a joy-ride I'll never forget. On a whim and in preparation for this years NaNoWriMo (the 10th anniversary) I thought I might order No Plot? No Problem!: A Low-Stress, High-Velocity Guide to Writing a Novel in 30 Days "the book" and see what it held in store for me.
In the back of my mind I really thought that the book and the kit would be redundant. You see that in so many reviews, "Buy the book OR the workbook, but not both." Not the case with these two! No Plot? No Problem! the book is a wealth of knowledge that all WriMos and "Some Day" Authors should read! It has crazy amounts of insight on how to get started, how to keep the ball rolling, and how to maximize your caffeine to food ratio intake!
Baty really gives you the down and dirt truth to month long noveling. It is a must read for everyone considering to write a novel or participate in NaNoWriMo. I carry mine everywhere I go.

NaNo Necessity, 2008-09-01
I know it's been said over and over here, but this books is wonderful. Anyone involved in NaNoWriMo should spend the time to read this book. Baty did a wonderful job of helping WriMos through the month of torture and excitement with this book.
My first three NaNos were won without this book, but I have read it every NaNo since I got it as it helps so much. My last copy was borrowed but never returned (such is the life of an ML), so I bought another. Need to make sure I reread it again and keep it out for all others who might want to read it before November starts. I recommend all my locals read it if possible and buy a copy if they can. It's such a huge help (almost as big of a help as the forum)!
