Product Description Eve Duncan deals in death every day. It's her job, but now that job is about to put her life on the line - and the lives of everyone close to her. A high-ranking government official wants Eve to drop everything and come to Baton Rouge to identify the remains of an unknown murder victim. Eve wants nothing to do with the project, having finally found peace from her own tragic past. She is enjoying a quiet life in a small lakeside cottage with Atlanta detective Joe Quinn and her adopted daughter, Jane. But as a stunning series of seemingly unrelated events begins to upset all that, Eve flees to Baton Rouge to take on the job.Forced to work in secrecy and given only the sketchiest information, Eve can't help but wonder if all the high-level security is meant to protect or imprison her. When the next death occurs before she has even begun work on the reconstruction, it becomes clear that someone totally ruthless, who can strike anywhere at any time, and with seeming immunity, is determined to put a halt to her work. The questions - and the threats to her life - mount as Eve realises she has stumbled into the heart of a chilling conspiracy and the truth lies buried beneath a body of lies.
Amazon.com Review Just as there are sculptors who insist they liberate forms imprisoned within marble and granite, Eve Duncan, the strong-willed heroine of Body of Lies, is a forensic sculptor driven by a need to liberate innocence from the shroud of death. Tops in her field, Eve obsesses over recreating the likenesses of faceless, decomposed murder victims, using only their bare skulls as a guide. It's a spooky career that began when Eve's own daughter, Bonnie, vanished and was later discovered, the girl's remains unrecognizable. In Body of Lies, a killer uncovers a shocking truth about Bonnie, driving a rattled Eve to take a dangerous assignment in the darkest heart of bayou country. There, at the weird behest of a shady senator, Eve rebuilds the visage of the politician's late rival, a challenge that nearly results in her murder, strains her romance with a hard-bitten detective, and uncovers a fantastic global conspiracy over energy profits and much else. Wildly ambitious, Iris Johansen's Body of Lies inspires paranoia about the rich and powerful, though it gets unwieldy when Johansen's action writing and characters don't plausibly sustain the image of a secret society hell-bent on world domination. More effective are her bright supporting characters (especially Eve's Liverpudlian protector, Galen), bursts of descriptive wit, and insights into her wounded but dogged heroine. --Tom Keogh

Not very original, but a good read., 2008-04-21 Body of lies by Iris Johansen is a good read. The female lead is not always believable, her motives seem a bit contrived at times but the book doesn't really suffer from any of it. I felt the villains were a little flat, not having any real motives but the old reliable greed for more money. Surprisingly the story still held my interest. It has a mellow rhythm that allows for quiet enjoyable reading. The suspense is there, but not the break neck pace. This is one you can read in bed and be entertained, but still manage to get some sleep.

Body of Lies, 2008-03-02 Johansen certainly continues to pique my interest throughout this book (as with all the others). I am hooked on the Eve Duncan series, and love the way she continues to mingle all the characters from previous books, without making you have to read the former books to know how they fit into this narrative. I hope Eve, Joe and Sandy continue finding cases for a long time with all their "assistants," including Monty!

Excellent Book, 2008-02-21 This is the first Iris Johansen book I have read. The author draws you in immediately. I couldn't put the book down. I cannot remember the last time I picked up a book and read it within a day or two.
I love the ending too. Too many authors set up the story and then just hit you with the conclusion so quickly you feel like you were hit by a truck. Not this one. After all of the excitement the author ties up lose ends.
