Album Description
This is the return of Wu-Tang! Their first studio release since the death of Dirty Ol Bastard; these superstars have returned...GZA, RZA, Method Man, Ghostface Killa, Raekwon, U-God, Inspecta Deck and Masta Killa, they're all here. "The Hear Gently Weeps" features Erykah Badu and is the first song to feature a Beatles sample! This is A MUST for true hip-hop fans. "The 8 Diagrams" comes with a bonus DVD!!

On Wu-Tang Clan's sixth album, 8 Diagrams, producer RZA still knows how to drop the bottom out of listeners' expectations. A minute and a half into opener "Campfire," for example, he abruptly switches keys just as the accompanying vocal downshifts from a melodic Curtis Mayfield sample ("Gypsy Woman") into Method Man's merciless first verse. From then on, despite the contentious instrumentals (Raekwon practically disowned the final product), RZA's never lets his fun get in the way of the MCs' speaking largely for themselves. Unsurprisingly, they still have a lot to say, though much of it treads firmly in the most stereotypical of hip-hop posturing: self-adulation, rough-edged with a syncopated litany of more or less violent, casually sexist bravado. Of course, those who tend toward hip-hop with a heart of gold would never be listening to the Wu anyway. Erykah Badu, John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers), and George Harrison's own son Dhani can't resuscitate "The Heart Gently Weeps," but then "Take It Back," "Wolves" (with George Clinton), and especially he timpani-pummeled "Weak Spot" show that even at loggerheads, the Wu still rocks an eccentric, charismatic funk. In the end, it seems, a gaggle of irreverent rappers this talented and volatile ages well almost in spite of itself. Keep 'em coming. --Jason Kirk

5 out of 5 starsTHIS IS NOT OLD WU. GET OVER IT!!, 2008-08-16
For all the people complaining that this is not the 'old WU' need to shut up and move on. Every album is supposed to have a new sound to it. I love this album and I know that as individuals, the Wu still make their vintage sound on other tracks, so I'm secure in knowing that Wu has not changed, but have just experimented. Also know that it is impossible to please everybody, because if this album sounded like 36 chambers, there would still be people complaining that the album sounds old and would like to hear something new.

5 out of 5 starsYou can never find Zig weak spot, stop looking!!!!!, 2008-07-22
I give this 5 stars because I think still compared to most newer rap this is above it..What I wouldn't do is compare this entire album to '36 Chambers' or 'Forever'...those people looking for that straight gritty sound that endeared Wu to a whole generation isn't here in full...I'd say the closest song to that Wu is #13 "Weak Spot"...

But all that being said this is a great album...It starts off with a sample from "8 Diagram Pole Fighter" in the classic Wu style of Kung-fu homage in "Campfire". Lyrically the album just works for me..I woulda liked to hear more from Gza on this album but I think the lyrics are definitely still on it...

Beats wise it depends on what you are looking for..Being someone that digs Rock&Roll and other genres I guess I liked some of the heavier beats like "Campfire" and "Unpredictable".. "Guns Will Go" and "Windmill" probably had my two favorite beats looking at it from a hip-hop perspective...But to me the genius song on the album was "The Heart Gently Weeps"..They took the hook from the Beatles song and made it their own..where most 'artists' just rob the beat and little else, Wu made it their own...

I was distressed about Ghostface's comments before the album came out..but in retrospect I think it was a personal thing about the Wu album being dropped before his..a shame but when that many artists get together with such talent, egos will ensue..

My Top 5 tracks

1. Heart Gently Weeps
2. Rushing Elephants
3. Windmill
4. Stick Me for My Riches
5. Weak Spot

Wu Forever!!

5 out of 5 starsWu-Tang classic, 2008-07-18
This is another Wu-Tang classic album that deserves 5 Stars, no question about it. RZA developed great beats and the members really show up lyrically. Not much more can be said beyond go get the album yourself, sit back, and enjoy it.

3 out of 5 starsIts OK, 2008-06-16
Yeah, Wu Tang is unpredictable, and thats the problem. When I buy a Wu release, I want to hear the Wu, not someone else. When Wu appear on only slightly more than half, I am a little disappointed.

The hot tracks on this one are:
Take It Back
Unpredictable

And Wu knows these are the best tracks as they are the tracks that headline the DVD that its packaged with. Speaking of the DVD, its good from an inside the studio point of view, but the concert footage is NOT good. Distortion, and worst of all its censored.

Overall its just OK. I'll listen to those teo tracks religiously and delete the rest from the mp3 player.

Over all better the alot albuns out there. Wu makes classic, lirics on the album on poit, but beatz, RZA is bigger then this. This is no diss, is just what i think. Wu Tang forever, RIP Dirt Dog.
